3 1) Define latitude:  Latitude is defined as the number of degrees above or below the equator.

4 2) Define longitude:  Longitude is defined as the number of degrees east or west of the Prime Meridian.

6 3) What is the North Star? How is it used in navigation? The altitude of Polaris is equal to the latitude.

7 What is the international date line? It is the 180 degree line of longitude that separates the eastern and western hemispheres.
