The Equator and Prime Meridian
The Prime Meridian runs north and south.
It also separates the Eastern and Western Hemispheres. The Western Hemisphere is west of the Prime Meridian. The Eastern Hemisphere is east of the Prime Meridian.
Longitude measures how far east or west a location is from the Prime Meridian.
Florida is located at 80 degrees west of the Prime Meridian.
Japan is located at 140 degrees east of the Prime Meridian.
