Welcome to Mrs. Jackson’s Third Grade

Welcome to Third Grade! I hope this presentation may answer some of the questions you may have about third grade!

All About Mrs. Jackson  My background  I attended Bethany Elementary as a child so I think it is a privilege to teach here. I graduated from Clover High School and I now live in RockHill.   I attended Winthrop University. I have a B.S. in Elementary Education as well as a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of South Carolina.  In 2001 I earned National Board Certification in the area of Middle Childhood Generalist.

All About Mrs. Jackson Continued  My experience  I began my teaching career in 1994 at Bethany Elementary.  I’ve been teaching third grade at Bethany for 13 years. I LOVE THIRD GRADERS!

My Family My husband Travis and I have been married for 12 years. We have two children, Drew and Annslee.

My Family My Son Drew Drew is four years old. He can not wait to be five so he can come to Bethany with the big kids. I’m sure you will meet him at a PTO meetings or other school function.

My Family My daughter Annslee Annslee Caroline is the newest member of my family. She is six months old. She is a very happy baby and loves her big brother very much!

My Dog Paddy Paddy have been in our family for 11 years. Her name is Paddy because we got her on St. Patrick’s Day.

My Goals  To give you the academic and social skills you need to progress to fourth grade.  To provide a supportive and engaging classroom environment.  To help you make new friends and discover new interests.

Classroom Community  Our classroom is a community. In our community, we have rules to help us get along with each other.

Classroom Rules  We will be polite at all times.  We will work quietly and not disturb others.  We will listen courteously when others are talking.  We will be friendly to classmates.  We will be truthful and honest.

Classroom Rules Continued  We will respect our teachers and other adults.  We will be prepared for class everyday.  We will cooperate with others.  We will always do our best.

Consequences All students are provided a “pocket” on the classroom behavior chart. Each pocket contains a ticket in each of the following colors: green, yellow, red, and blue. Students who do not follow the rules will follow this code of consequences:

 Warning….pull green ticket  1 st offense….pull yellow ticket/silent lunch  2 nd offense…pull red ticket/silent lunch/ no recess  3 rd offense…pull orange ticket/ silent lunch/no recess/ note home

Extreme Clause  Extreme behavior such as violence, inappropriate language, threatening other students, or defying teachers will result in an immediate visit to Mrs. Stine or Mrs. McCarter.

Homework  I will assign homework each night Monday thru Thursday.  An assignment sheet with all homework listed for the week will come home each Monday.  Homework should be returned to school. each day.  Students should spend less than an hour on homework each night.

No Homework Students who do not return to school with all homework assignments completed will have silent lunch and no recess. Parents will be contacted if a student repeatedly fails to complete homework. In the event of a family emergency or illness that prevents a student from completing homework, please just send a note with the student and additional time will be given to complete the assignment. I am sorry but forgetting required materials will not be excused.

Parent Communication  Weekly Progress Reports  E-mails…mjackson@clover.k12.sc.us. I check my e-mail frequently during the day at school. This is probably the best way to contact me quickly! It is much easier for me to answer an e-mail during the day than to leave class to return a phone call.  Phone Calls I have a school number that I can be reached at during the day, however calls will only be put through before 7:30 and after 2:15. Other times it will automatically be forwarded to voice mail. I will check my voice mail periodically during the day. 803-810-8825  Conferences are welcomed and encouraged. Please e-mail or call the school at any time to schedule a conference. Again, e- mail will probably be the most efficient way to schedule this conference.

Let’s Have a Great Year!
