What is propaganda A kind of biased communication designed to influence people’s thoughts and actions. During World War II, all countries utilized propaganda for similar purposes.

Reasons for Propaganda Financing the War:  Asked people to buy war bonds.  Buy bonds now and the $$$ goes to the gov’t. In a few years, the value of those bonds go up. Recruitment  to persuade young men to join the military.  The various forms of propaganda glorified the war effort and used short catchy phrases that were easy to understand and hard to forget. Supporting the War  In order for war to continue, people needed to support it.  Propaganda encouraged citizens to do their share in helping the war effort.

Propaganda Technique Vocab Assertion: an enthusiastic or energetic statement presented as a fact, although it is not necessarily true. Bandwagon Technique: an appeal to the subject to follow the crowd, to join in because others are doing so as well. Card stacking: involves only presenting information that is positive to an idea or proposal and omitting information contrary to it.

Propaganda Technique Vocab 2 Loaded words/pictures: emotional phrases or pictures used to elicit an emotional response. Testimonial: are quotations or endorsements used to convince viewers to do something Sweeping Generalizations: Generalizations about a group of people not based on fact.

What makes Propaganda Effective? An effective propaganda poster didn’t need to be fancy, in fact the opposite was true. Propaganda for the masses had to be:  Simple  Clear  Appeal to the emotions  Had to make just a few main points, which then had to be repeated many times An effective propaganda piece could be more dangerous than any physical weapon.

Germany Propaganda Late in War Movie Against Jews - This 1940 poster advertises the worst of the Nazi anti-Semitic films, "The Eternal Jew."
