4 Food That Describes My Culture. The most important use of corn is the one that is centuries old. Corn forms masa, the dough for tortillas and their variations and for tamales. Since ancient times, a Mexican table without tortillas is an empty table. dried corn kernels are cooked with water and limestone until the kernel skins are soft. After standing for one day, the kernels are skinned, and the hearts are ground to form masa. Stone mortars and pestles used to do the job. 5 When Is the Best Chance to Eat Tortillas? I would say when the best time to eat a tortilla is when it is just made the best way’s to eat a tortilla is to make a taco.

6 How to Make Tortillas? 1.Measure 1 cup flour and put it in a medium-large bowl. 2.Measure 1/4 teaspoon salt. Sprinkle it into the flour and stir a little. 3.Make a dent in the center with a spoon. 4.Measure 1/2 cup water and pour it into the dent. 5.Mix with a fork or spoon for about 1 minute, then rub some flour into the palms of your clean hands and use your hands to push the dough together until it becomes a smooth ball. 6.Sprinkle a little flour onto the work area. Put the dough on the floured area and divide it into 4 equal parts. Roll each part into a smaller ball. 7.Rub a little flour on the rolling pin. roll each pall until it becomes a very thin, flat circle about 6 or 7 inches across. You can measure it. Put a frying pan on the stove and place a tortilla in the pan.Turn on the heat to 8.medium. 9.Cook on one side for 3 or 4 minutes, until it has golden brown spots underneath. (Use a spatula to peek.) 10.When the tortilla is ready, flip it over, and cook it on the other side. 7 What does the word tortilla mean? TORTILLA - Name given by Spaniards to the corn-based flat-bread they found in use in Mexico. This literally means "smallish and flattened," (for instance, it is what a Spaniard would call an egg omelet).
