Take out the following: Act II paragraphs Act II graphic organizer (with quotes) Get a purple book if you do not have enough quotes (2 per paragraph)

2 Number your paragraph Topic sentence: One reason supporting your thesis Context: Give background describing character/situation/complication before quote Integrated Quotation: Integrate and cite Analyze: Provide inferences to support your topic sentence Transition to next example and context for quote Integrated Quotation Analyze Conclude: Wrap up the paragraph Remove “I” and“you”. Write in 3rd person Present tense

Focus on what kind of transition you are making – Agree, Contrast, Argue, etc. See Transition Words list under Semester 1 for more examples In addition, Romeo is to blame because he makes decisions without thinking of the consequences. 12 Turn Back/Refute Example
Thesis: Romeo and Juliet’s decisions have a larger affect on their own lives because now people view them negatively. Claim #1: Romeo acts impulsively by killing Tybalt. Quote to support: When Romeo kills Tybalt, it causes town to banish him. Counterclaim: Although the couple’s decisions affect their lives, the decisions also affect other people. Quote to support: When Juliet disobeys her father by not marrying Paris and causes shame to the family. Turn Back/Refute: Although, Juliet’s father is moving too quickly and causing more problems by arranging the marriage to Paris. Quote to support: When Juliet’s father plans the wedding to Paris.

13 An integrated quotation is a combination between your own words and text directly from the source.
Example: As an adult, Lizabeth clearly recognizes that the day she decides to destroy Miss Lottie’s marigolds “marked the end of innocence” (Collier 245).

14 How do I integrate a quotation?
Dialogue Tag Quote Weave Millicent knows Beverly bullies her. This causes her to ponder “ [h]ow absurdly funny, taking orders from this girl like a servant” (Plath 261). Even though Millicent realizes the bullying, she still has not come of age.
