2 Introduce myself In post since March 2007 Role to make sure FMB is successful Lead staff team and key link with the membership Represent FMB to Government and other key stakeholders Economist 30 years experience of working in membership organisations across a range of sectors

3 FMB Background Founded 1941 to represent small builders PROTECT against inappropriate legislation and regulation (and cowboys) PROMOTE members as good builders PROVIDE information to assist members PROJECT a positive message about small builders and their business needs

4 Building & Civ Eng employs directly nearly 1.9m – UK biggest employer Sector output was £113bn in 2006 (~ 10% UK GDP) Although high profile projects such as the new Wembley Stadium or T5 dominate the public debate about building most of the work is more mundane The UK Building Industry

8 Our organisation Members – 13,000 Branches - 120 Regions - 11 National Council (= Board of Directors) Specialist Committees advising National Council National President – in post for 2 yrs supported by IPP and 2 V-Ps

10 FMB Membership Members must have been trading for 12 months +, be financially sound, have public liability insurance (& employee insurance if they have staff), provide references, agree to our Code of Practice Membership £300/yr (+ initial joining fee) Can upgrade to MasterBond and offer FMB warranty – added checks
