2 History UK Universities CPD network established in 2006 to share best practice for CPD staff in universities Business-facing arm, The Training Gateway developed in 2007 out of the need for a single point of contact for business to access universities Funded by HEFCE in 2008

3 What is The Training Gateway? A single portal through which to source corporate, vocational and executive training from UK Universities Membership of all UK universities – 1000 individual members

5 How Does it Work? Log on to www.thetraininggateway.comwww.thetraininggateway.com State your enquiry/submit your provider enquiry form Enquiry processed by The Training Gateway within 48 hours Responses from suppliers delivered by email You select your preferred supplier

6 What Training Can be Sourced through The Training Gateway Higher levels skills across all sectors Work based learning, face to face programmes, online, accrediting employers programmes Leadership and management Vocational training Plus much more

The Training Gateway supports inward delegations wishing to meet UK universities Provides CPD for staff at universities The Training Gateway provides opportunities for UK Universities to exhibit at overseas events The Training Gateway can provide a managed service and work with you to identify the right solution for your training need Many case studies detailing how UK Universities have worked with overseas organisations

9 What has worked well Recruitment of members through various PR activities – marketing, word of mouth etc Pre-established links with organisations through the University of York eg UKTI – has made engagement easier Links forged with Internationally, nationally and regionally including SSCs, Professional Associations, RDAs and local councils Times Higher Award 2008 for Outstanding Employer Engagement Initiative Provided opportunity for universities to exhibit at major exhibitions and CPD training

10 Main Challenges Continuing business model – how to fund The Training Gateway beyond the funding period What are we marketing – you end up marketing universities as a whole, not just The Training Gateway – loss of focus on the product Business tender referrals – tenders are taken largely from database – want to move towards more referrals Recruitment of members – we are not linked to every university staff member that we should be – it is hard to identify the right person Getting feedback from members
