2 SIMPLE SENTENCE ONE independent clause Expresses a complete thought with a subject and a predicate It can stand by ITSELF. Ex : I looked for Mary and Samantha at the bus stop.

3 COMPOUND SENTENCE A sentence with ONE or more independent clauses joined by a comma and a conjunction OR a SEMICOLON (;). Ex: She did not cheat on the test, for it was not the right thing to do.

4 COMPLEX SENTENCE One independent clause joined together with one DEPENDENT clause IC DC DC, IC Ex: Because my coffee was too cold, I heated it in the microwave.

5 COMPOUND-COMPLEX SENTENCE
Two or more independent clauses and one or more dependent clauses All clauses must be JOINED appropriately. Ex: Because Katie was late for school, she grabbed her book bag, but she forgot her lunch.
