ORGANOGRAM

The Integrated Database System (IDS) MySQL data platform for storing all the datasets including, nutrition, crop, livestock, imports and exports Uses common geographical data/units (districts, zones, livelihood zones) to integrate different sources Trend analysis can be conducted for data from different sources

The Integrated Database System (IDS) Nutrition:- stored in excel sheets that are imported into the MySQL database. Crop data:- yield, area cultivated and production estimates. Available in excel sheets dating as far back as 1995 Livestock exports:- data from official statistics in the ports of Berbera and Bossaso. Dates back since 1994 and available for camel, cattle, goats and sheep. Cereal imports data:- source is also official port statistics, since 1999. Stored in excel sheets Markets data:- data from more than 40 markets available for over 50 commodities including food and a variety of non-food items important for a typical household in Somali context. Available via the web and dates as far back as 1994. Baselines:- livelihood based datasets that define the livelihood systems of Somalia. Currently being updated. Data available internally in form of excel spreadsheets and reports

Web Registration and Access A web-based query interface for accessing FSNAU’s datasets; it has export facilities to MS Excel as well as dynamic graphing for selected datasets; Datasets featured include:- Market data; Livestock data; Import/Export data ( Exports: camels, cattle, gum/frankincense, hides/skins, shoats | Imports: pasta, rice, sugar, wheat flour ); Crop data; Nutrition data. Currently, there are 254 registered users.

Components of the IDS

The Field Integrated Database System (FIDS) A field based application that allows field staff to connect to the database in Nairobi remotely. Updates and synchronizes data between Nairobi and field automatically. Ensures data cleaning and validation is effected across the field and Nairobi automatically

Nutrition Situation Analysis Integrated analysis 6 months using data from a range of sources including: Nutrition Assessments Rapid MUAC assessments HIS data Selective Feeding Centres Disease Surveillance Partner secondary data Used for identifying priority area and monitoring trends

Combined IPC Populations January – June 2011 Integrated Food Security Phase Classification It is a tool for classifying food security in five phases – generally food secure – chronically food insecure – acute food and livelihood crisis – humanitarian emergency – famine/humanitarian catastrophe The IPC is not an assessment method per se. It integrates information and analyses from diverse sources to classify food security according to indicators that are drawn from recognized international standards (e.g. on nutrition). The approach developed by FSAU is now a global interagency initiative and has been rolled out in several countries and is going through an intensive review

IPC Review ongoing over the last 2 years – commissioned specific studies and many consultation with field and TAG IPC Version 2 due to the coming months www.ipcinfo.org
