2 SpainExplorers: Vasco Nunez de Balboa- first explorer to see the Pacific Ocean in 1513. Christopher Columbus- Goal: find a route to Asia. Found instead islands in the Caribbean. (1492-1500) 4 voyages Juan Ponce de Leon- Lead exploration to Florida in 1493 Amerigo Vespucci- Discovered South America; determined that Columbus had not discovered East Indies. Credited for discovering N. S. America 1499-1502 Francisco Pizarro- Conquistador who defeated Incan Empire in South America in 1532
