By Julián García

I began my journey in the city of Rabat. It was a beautiful and big city. With its Mediterranean climate and its ancient culture, this city is well maintain and organize. Rabat has important textile, food processing and construction industries that makes it the capital city and a very important city. I also travel to some other cities in Morocco by the ONCF (Morocco’s railroad) like Tanger and Marrakech.

From Rabat I rent a car and drove through the coast to Oran, Algeria and that same day I arrived to Algiers, where I spent two days learning new things. Although TWO days are nothing, I took advantage of it and learn a lot of things. It is known as “Algiers the White” because of the glistening white of its buildings as seen raising up from the sea. I stayed in the modern part of the city, but people told me that I had to visit the old part. I went in the summer so it was hot, but in winter season the climate is mild and thank God I didn’t visited the desert because it has extreme temperatures. Well I didn’t had that much time so at the second day I took the RER and continued my trip to Afghanistan.

Tunis is the capital of both Tunisia and the Tunis Governorate with a population more or less of 728,453 people and 2,412,500 inhabitants. The climate was almost the same as the other cities because of the coast. I didn’t communicated well with the other people because they spoke in Tunisian Arabic and almost nobody spoke English. The last day that I stayed in Tunis, I went with a friend of mine that lives there to watch a play in the Municipal Theater of Tunis. And then we ate Couscous with Kerkennah fish, a very typical food of Tunis.

Tripoli is also called “Western Tripoli” to distinguish from Tripoli, Lebanon. If you separate the word, “Tri” means Three and “Poli” means Cities. This city is also at the coast and enjoys warm summers and mild winters. It is the leading centre of banking, finance and communication in the country and is one of the leading commercial and manufacturing cities in Libya. The city’s old town, the Medina, is visited by all the tourist and it is very famous.

Egypt’s capital Cairo is the largest city in Africa and the 16 th most populous metropolitan area in the world. A grate expireance was when I tried sand boarding in the huge dunes. The climate is desert due to the geography that sorrounds it. I liked the Fatir that was a kind of pizza with honey or what you wanted to put as topping.

Next stop was at the capital of Israel, Jerusalem, this city has an important religious history for that it is a holy city for three major Abrahamic religions that are Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. It is located in a plateau in the Judean Mountains and has hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. People said that snow usually occurs once or twice in winter season. A friend took me to the al-Aqsa Mosque, a sacred place for Muslims, and we had a great experience.

I travel through Amman, Jordan by train and stopped in Baghdad, Iraq. I learned that it is the second largest city in the “Arabic World” after Cairo and that it has always played an important role in Arab cultural life and has been the home of noted writers, musicians and visual artists. It has a similitude with Barranquilla, that both are located near a river in this case the Tigris River. The temperture varies doesn’t matter if it is winter or summer.

I passed by Tehran, the capital of Iran, and only learn that is the 21 st largest city in the world. Finally I got to Kabul, Afghanistan and rest a little, but the next days I started touristing through out the city. It is a landlocked and mountainous city with a lot of natural resources like gold, silver, copper, zinc, ect. It is a very old city with culture for over two millenniums. I stayed in a hotel that had a buffet like the one you see in the picture with all kind of Afghan food. That was the best for me!!!
