4 Charles I ► Charles I takes over ► Struggled with parliament ► Supported “Divine Rights of the King” ► Religious conflicts (supported Catholics) ► 1 st Civil War (1642-1645): Opposed by Parliament and Protestants ► Defeated but would not submit ► 2 nd Civil War (1648-1649)-ultimately executed for treason
