SPORTIVATE Funding for local clubs and organisations to boost the level of activity amongst the 14-25 year olds

Sportivate Sportivate is a nationwide campaign that forms part of the Places, People, Play Olympic legacy programme by the Government and Sport England. It will continue the Legacy of London 2012 by providing attractive and sustainable sporting opportunities for teenagers and young adults in the sport of their choice within their community.

Sportivate The programme will target people who are not participating regularly in sport and will support them to continue playing sport after the 6-8 weeks of Sportivate sessions come to an end. Providers need to demonstrate that they have intelligence that participants want to take part in that particular sport/activity and that it can be delivered locally with suitable exit routes in place for participants to continue taking part.

Sportivate – Target age Sportivate is targeting those aged 14-25 who may not seek out sporting opportunities themselves and would not prioritise doing sport in their own time. These people might be described as semi-sporty. The target group was selected because research has shown that the period in which people leave full time education and start to lead more independent lives is when many stop and do not resume regular sports participation.

Criteria for Funding 6 consecutive weeks of coaching must be delivered There must be an identified need for the project There must be a confirmed exit route for the project with the capacity for increased numbers of participants Sportivate funding will not 100% fund any activity Project need can be identified through any young peoples survey

Criteria for funding Participants: Must be between 14-25 years old Must attend every week of the 6 or 8 week programme Must complete the participant survey Must want to continue being active

Eligible Costs Staffing to run activities Coaches/teachers – up to £30.00 per hour Volunteer expenses Hire of facilities Training / coaching courses Equipment – up to 20% of the grant

Ineligible Costs Retrospective activities Overheads – storage of equipment Contingency costs: replacing damaged equipment Purchase of vehicles Buildings or refurbishment Activities that are not sufficiently targeted Activities that are imposed on young people and they are not consulted.

Successful Projects – Roller-Fit The Roller-Fit project used Sportivate to help with coaching and equipment costs and used Roehampton University’s facility for FREE! Over 35 participants attended regularly. The project managed to secure additional funding to run a second project. The project secured funding for 2 staff members to attend a Level 2 Qualification course, enabling them to continue independently, at a small cost to the participants.

Successful Projects – Women’s Football This project used Sportivate funding to establish themselves as a club and help enter a number of teams into local leagues. The club has successfully set up 3 ladies teams, all of which are top of their league! Over 40 ladies playing football each week.
