2 Long Term Causes  Harsh Czars tried to suppress reforms  Peasant unrest Rigid Classes Very Poor  Urban Workers were exploited  Diversity and Nationalism

3 Bloody Sunday  On January 22, 1905  Peaceful March to influence the Czar to reform  Nicholas II called on soldiers to fire upon marchers.

4 Bolshevik Revolution  Leader – Lenin  Followed Marxism  Promised “Peace, Bread, Land”  Peace = Out of WWI  Bread = Food  Land = Equal distribution on land  Lenin pulled out of the war… So he could deal with internal problem

5 NEP – New Economic Plan  Introduced a bit of Capitalism into Marxism

6 Joseph Stalin  Great Purge Rid the U.S.S.R. of all dissidents (people against Stalin)  Totalitarian Rule One-Party dictator who controls all aspects of the citizen’s life

7 Stalin  Command Economy Government makes all economic decisions  Five Year Plan Plan to increase industry and farm output  Collectives Farms owned and operated by a group People starved because they resisted Stalin’s quotas
