4. Socrates lived during the time of when Greece was one of the world’s strongest countries. Back then there was a giant struggle for land and power through modern day Europe. Having a strong military was very important for the countries survival. Socrates was part of the military for most of his life as his sons were. Typically if a family was lower in the political rankings or had little money, their men often went off to war. Slavery was very big in Ancient Greece during this time period. Even poor families had owned at least a couple slaves. Slaves were allowed to own land and have families but were not permitted to have political rights. In some cities Slaves made up a third of the population.

5. Socratic method- one of Socrates' most important thoughts was his dialectic method of analysis. This thought examined the moral concepts of such things as Good and Justice. To solve a problem, it would be broken down into a series of questions, the answers to which gradually distill the answer a person would seek. It is closely related to the modern day scientific method, by which the hypothesis is the first stage. The contributions to philosophy that Socrates' left with the world could be argued in two ways. One being that Plato and Socrates' thoughts were both so closely related, making them hard to distinguish, given the fact that Plato adapted to the Socratic Method. Another argument being that Socrates did indeed have his own distinct theories and beliefs, which were much more difficult to find. These were hard to pick out of Plato’s theories.
