2 Company Name & Logo What type of product line or service will your company create or provide? Create a name that “sticks in the minds” of your consumers Company Logo – each product created or service provided should have the logo on it. Think about Nike, Matel Toys, etc. Logo will be on the first page of your portfolio and in color. Think outside of the box – NO COPYING existing company names and/or logos

3 Mission Statement A statement that captures an organization’s purpose, customer orientation and business philosophy Cross between slogan and an executive summary Should include: –Who your company is, what you do, what you stand for and why you do it –3-4 sentences long (no more than 30 seconds) –Avoid saying how great you are or the great quality or service you provide Answer these questions –What are the opportunities or needs that we need to address? (purpose of the organization) –What are we doing to address these needs? (business of the organization) –What principles or beliefs guide your work? (value of the organization)

4 Protocols Possible Topics to Cover: dress code, hours, disciplinary infractions & penalties, procedures for scheduling time off, pay periods and paycheck distribution, shift hours, vacation time & sick leave, etc.

5 Protocol Examples Good Example Pay periods are two weeks long ending on Thursdays. Checks will be distributed on the Monday following the end of the two week period. Bad Example Employees paid every two weeks.

6 Protocol Examples Good Example Customers should be greeted within 1 minute of entering the store and asked if they need any help. Bad Example Always give good customer service.

7 Interviewing & Hiring Select at least 5 interview questions to ask during the interview (change closed questions to OPEN-ENDED questions) Select questions on the next couple of slides or create your own. After selecting the interview questions, select the TOP THREE character traits you are looking for in the IDEAL CANDIDATE! Explain WHY each trait is so important as well. –Example: Time management skills: At ABC, Inc. it is imperative that employees manage their time wisely. Being that every employee has a active roll in designing and producing the best learning toys as well as testing each product. So, employees must be able to efficiently manage his/her time with a creating, producing, and testing educational toys in a timely manner.

8 Select at least one question from each of the following –Personal Questions How would you describe yourself? What have you learned from your mistakes? How do you handle criticism? In what ways have you been a leader? How has your high school experience prepared you for a job? What are your outside interests? What do you like to do in your free time? Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

9 Select at least one question from each of the following –Job Related Questions What qualifications do you have that make you think that you will be successful at this job? Why should I hire you? What is your greatest strength and weakness? How will these affect your job performance? Do you prefer to work independently or as part of a team? What do you know about this company? How long of a commitment do you plan to give the company?

10 –Educational Questions What has been your favorite and least favorite courses? Why? What is your grade point average? Are your grades an indication of your work ethic? Why? What have you learned from participation in extracurricular activities? Have your extracurricular activities been worth the time you put into them? Don’t forget you may select your own questions; however, they must fit within the PERSONAL, JOB RELATED and EDUCATIONAL questions.

11 Motivation Methods to increase productivity (work output), sales, or reduce absenteeism and late arrivals. They can be individual, department or company wide. EXAMPLE: Top earning sales associate of the month receives $50.00 bonus

12 Building Relationships Activities to help employees get to know each other better. Activities that build a team spirit. EX: Company Easter egg hunt for families, company provided lunch once a month or quarter, company pays for everyone to go snowmobiling.

13 Designing Facilities Think of EVERYTHING your company needs space for Storage Restrooms Work spaces, break rooms Think of the BEST layout EX: checkouts near the exits

14 Presentation for the Class Groups will present their company portfolio to the class. Groups will NOT read everything in the portfolio. Groups delegate who will present what from the following categories: –ALL information on the 1 st page (Name, Logo and Mission Statement) –State 4 of 10 protocol –Chain of Command: Show the chart/diagram AND describe 2 positions (1 upper and 1 lower level) responsibilities and traits –Read ALL 5 interview questions and 3 qualities with explanations –State 2 of 5 motivation and relationship building –Company layout – show and explain layout
