2 Project Description ALL PROJECTS ARE TO BE COMPLETED IN POWERPOINT FORM and contain 23 -25 slides. They must include: 1. a title slide (project name, your name and your partner’s name, date submitted) 2. a slide with at least 5 French vocabulary words pertinent to your subject along with their English translation. 3. twenty slides which succinctly convey your point of view through words and images 4. a concluding slide ( fin ) The body of the project may be completed in English. Project is due: Tuesday, January 19, 2010. It must be submitted to me by email: dssilverstein@cps.edudssilverstein@cps.edu by the end of the school day to be considered on time.

3 THIS PROJECT IS WORTH 125pts and will be counted as an Exam Grade. 1. You and your partner remain on task during Library Research. _____ /30pts 2. Your project is completed on time. _____ /20 pts You will loose 10 points for every school day that your project is late. (-50pts max) Note: Absolutely no project will be accepted past Tuesday, January 26, 2010 3. Your project contains an ample amount of words and images to support your point of view. _____/20 pts 4. Your project accurately reflects the material covered in class. _____/10 pts 5. Your project includes at least 23 - 25 slides. _____/25pts 6. Your project includes a slide with 5 pertinent vocabulary words. _____ /5 pts 7. Your project shows creativity and effort _____ /15 pts BONUS POINTS: If your project is turned in on time, you may present it to the class in order to earn up to 15 bonus points.

4 Project 1 Propaganda At the time of the French Revolution, French society was divided into 3 groups: The Nobility, The Clergy, The Common People Along with a partner, choose a side and create propaganda to support your cause. Are you Nobles that feel misunderstood, or are you Commoners that want the head of King Louis XIV and Marie Antoinette? Or are you members of the Clergy that want to maintain your power and influence. Project 2 Louis XIV Louis XIV has just died. You and your partner are asked to write his eulogy which will be presented at his funeral. What was he like as a king? What contributions did he make to French Society during his reign? What is his famous quote? What will his legacy be? Project 3 Louis XV You and your partner intercept a letter from the Marquise de Pompadour written to Louis XV. Who is she? What did she write to Louis XV. What kind of relationship do They have? What images did she include in her letter?

5 Project 4 Louis XVI You and your partner are chefs in the kitchen at the Château de Versailles. You need to hire extra workers. Explain the job. Where will they be living? What does Louis XVI like to eat? What kind of boss is he? Project 5 Marie Antoinette A complicated queen to say the least! You and your partner are members of the French Court. Are you her friends or enemies? Who was she in your opinion... a misunderstood queen or a frivolous spendthrift? or both? Show your point of view through words and images. Project 6 Danton The advisors of Louis XVI want to learn everything they can about Danton. They have hired you and your partner to investigate his life and death. Convey Danton’s life story through words and images. Who was he? Describe his rise to power. Describe his downfall. What are some of his famous quotes?

6 Project 7 Robespierre You and your partner are writing an article on the Committee of Public Safety. It is a delicate job! Heads are getting chopped off left and right! Suddenly, news of Robespierre’s execution circulates. Tell his life story life story through words and images. Project 8 La Bastille You and your partner are relatives of Bernard-René de Launay, and you want justice! Who was this uncle of yours? What happened to him July 14th 1789. Explain why and how you seek justice. Project 9 Napoleon Napoleon has asked you and your partner to write his wife, Joséphine, on his behalf. He is too busy ruling France. What has he been up to during his reign as the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire?

7 Project 10 Marat You and your partner are forced to take over L’Ami du peuple and write a tribute to your former boss Jean-Paul Marat. Explain the details of his life and death through words and images. Project 11 L’Architecture française from 1643 – 1789. You and your partner are 19th Century architects. You want to inspire your employees by looking at the major works of the period starting with the reign of Louis XIV until the Revolution. For each work name the architect and the year it was built? Describe the important elements. What is the function of the building? Project 12 La Mode française from 1643 – 1789 You and your partner are magazine editors. Create a magazine depicting the French fashions beginning with the reign of Louis XIV until the Revolution. Describe them? How do they change? How is fashion influenced today? Be sure to give your magazine a name.
