2 Definition An idiom is a word, phrase, or expression that has meaning beyond the literal meaning of the word(s). Idioms are a fun way to describe everyday, boring situations.

3 There are two features that identify an idiom: 1.You cannot understand the meaning of the idiom from the individual words, its literal meaning makes no sense. 2.Both the grammar and the vocabulary of the idiom are fixed, or cannot be changed, and if we change them we lose the meaning of the idiom. (If we change the way it is written or the wording it does not mean the same thing anymore). How can you tell it’s an idiom?
