How did Halloween get it name? Halloween got its name from All Hallows Eve and was shortened to Halloween. It is the end of All-Hallows-Day which is All Saints Day. It is a day when spirits could walk the earth and communicate with the living.

When did Halloween start to be celebrated? Halloween started in Ireland about 2,000 years ago with a group of people called the Celtics. They believed in a god called Samhain who was the god of dead and darkness. October 31st was considered the end of the year and as a result they threw a large celebration, which was known as Samhain. This celebration of the autumn harvest and the Celtic new year, when they believed spirits could come back and visit with living relatives.

What is the connection between Salem and Halloween? Halloween was invented by a town of people that hollowed out small fruits and carved scary faces in them with candles in the center, they walked the town on Halloween holding them to scare off the evil spirits.

How old is too old to go trick-or- treating? I think 12 or 13 years old is to old to go trick or treating. too old is when you start feeling embarrassed saying trick or treat.

Why are black and orange the colors that are used to represent Halloween? Halloween is associated with the colors orange and black is that orange represents the color of pumpkins, which of course are a traditional Halloween decoration, and black represents the dark spirits which supposedly come forth on All Hallow's Eve.

What do pumpkins have to do with Halloween? It started when Irish Immigrants came to America, they used to use "Potatoes and Turnips" and put candles inside them for illumination, but they found potatoes and turnips were not as plentiful as in their homeland, to continue their traditions they used the pumpkin as a substitution, and continued to light the Jack-O-Lanterns with candles

What is the story behind the legend of Jack-o-lantern and where did it get its name? According to Rees & Rees, the folks who were abroad in the night imitating the fairies would some- times carry turnips carved to represent faces. This is the origin of our modern Jack-o-lantern. It became popular as house decorations in the United States after immigrant Irish discovered how much easier pumpkins were to carve than turnips, unleashing what has turned into quite an art form in the last decade or so. This later assumed a spooky touch, especially when the glowing faces appear from the darkness.

Why couldn’t carved pumpkins be used for Halloween in Ireland in the 14th century? Because this man named Jack, who duped the Devil into buying him a drink and then kept the Devil stuck in a tree by carving a cross into the trunk. When Jack finally died, neither Heaven nor Hell would have him, so his spirit was forced to roam the earth endlessly, lighting his way with a single coal held in a carved turnip. People initially called him “Jack of the Lantern,” but the name was eventually shortened to the Jack-o’- lantern that we make today at Halloween.

What vegetable was originally used for jack-o-lanterns? Turnips were originally used
