Some things to know about Publisher and Newspapers.  This is a basic Publisher newsletter design set. Ms. Muson and I have simplified it for you and created a common template that we will all use.  See Ms. Muson’s web page WWW.MUSON.INFO under Special Projects to access the template.WWW.MUSON.INFO  You can customize the fonts and insert graphics. Our newspaper will only have one story on the front. Feel free to insert photos and headlines that express your team’s position.

This blue line is only a guide and will not print. These dotted lines indicate the borders of text boxes. They are only a visual guide and will not print. Notice the page is divided into multiple columns, just like a newspaper you would buy today. The textboxes that you will type your stories in are “linked” to have the text overflow automatically from one column to another. Notice this graphic “sits” on top of the columns. Publisher has set up the newsletter format to have graphics be ordered on top of the text boxes or columns. Some things to know about Publisher and Newspapers

This structure is a table. To add or delete lines in the table, you have to click on the row or column you want to activate and then click Table on the Main Menu Bar. Insert or Delete are your next choices. Then you must choose Columns or Rows. Some things to know about Publisher and Newspapers

Font Schemes is a great way to customize the “look” of your newsletter without trying out every font. Publisher has grouped fonts that look good together AND are great for newsletters. Click on Font Schemes and then scroll through till you see a look you like. Remember, the masthead of the newspaper has to be visually appealing, without using WordArt. 5 You can draw your political cartoon in Paint Brush which is a basic electronic drawing tool under Accessories in the Applications menu. This program is not within Publisher. You can then copy and paste it into the box here. Or your can SAVE your drawing (in Paint Brush) and insert it later using the Insert function on the Main Menu Bar. Then select Picture, From File and your cartoon will be on the page. Remember, only size graphics from the corners or you will distort the image. Some things to know about Publisher and Newspapers... Volume 1, Issue 1Page 5 The political cartoon goes here. This story can fit 150 to 200 words. This is where the Editorial or Opinion of the Newspaper would go. This story can fit 75 to 125 words. This is where the character response would go. Also, this is sometimes called “Letters to the Editor” It is always someone’s personal point of view. Inside Story Headline Caption describing picture or graphic. “To catch the reader's attention, place an interesting sentence or quote from the story here.” If you prefer to draw your cartoon and then scan it, remember to save the image with a name on your private drive. You will then use the Insert function on the Main Menu Bar. Then select Picture, From File and your cartoon will be on the page.

Some things to know about Paint Brush on the Accessories Menu Use the pencil icon on the left to draw your cartoon. Use the A icon to add text. You must draw a text box before it will let you put words. The A icon does both. Remember, only size graphics from the corners or you will distort the image. The File and Edit options on the Main Menu Bar will be very familiar to you. Use File, Save As to create a graphic file of your drawing so you can insert it into your newspaper.
