2 Japan’s position on the current crisis Japan condemns the use of military force in settling disputes between the PRC and the ROC, and within the East Asian region in general Japan specifically condemns any offensive military action against a geographic entity with a democratically-elected government Japan condemns the use of military force in settling disputes between the PRC and the ROC, and within the East Asian region in general Japan specifically condemns any offensive military action against a geographic entity with a democratically-elected government Japan is willing to commit to a one-China policy, but reunification should be completed only as result of negotiation Japan condemns the use of military force in settling disputes between the PRC and the ROC, and within the East Asian region in general Japan specifically condemns any offensive military action against a geographic entity with a democratically-elected government Japan is willing to commit to a one-China policy, but reunification should be completed only as result of negotiation Japan believes that the use of force will have serious economic consequences for the entire region as well as the rest of the world

3 Japan puts forth the following resolution to the UN Security Council Article 1 The UN Security Council condemns the use of force between the PRC and the ROC Article 2 The continued hostilities between the PRC and the ROC will result in an automatic UN Security Council authorization of the use of force to preserve the status quo

4 Japan’s actions going forward In the event of continuing escalation and a UN Security Council authorization, Japan intends to deploy its military forces to enforce the resolution In the absence of a UN Security Council authorization, Japan will consider its options in consultation with its strategic allies In the event of continuing escalation and a UN Security Council authorization, Japan intends to deploy its military forces to enforce the resolution In the absence of a UN Security Council authorization, Japan will consider its options in consultation with its strategic allies Directly after this meeting, Japan will call an emergency session of the Japanese Diet to authorize the deployment of its defense forces in the East Asian region In the event of continuing escalation and a UN Security Council authorization, Japan intends to deploy its military forces to enforce the resolution In the absence of a UN Security Council authorization, Japan will consider its options in consultation with its strategic allies Directly after this meeting, Japan will call an emergency session of the Japanese Diet to authorize the deployment of its defense forces in the East Asian region Japan will encourage and support the immediate commencement of negotiations for the peaceful reunification between the PRC and the ROC
