1 Objectives: 1) Define: region, continent, latitude, longitude, prime meridian, equator, and hemisphere. 2) Locate and label 7 continents and 5 oceans on a world map. 3) I will recreate a globe with labeled significant lines of latitude and longitude. 4) On an exit ticket, students will explain in 1-2 sentences the difference between absolute and relative location.

2 Bellringer 1)List all major continents and oceans that you can recall (Hint: 7 continents, 5 oceans) 2) On world map : place the 7 continents and 5 oceans (work with your group) 3) Do it all on your own!

3 Vocabulary One member from each group grab 2 textbooks for your table. – If you are a group of 5 grab 3 Write name on vocab sheet Complete definitions

4 WHERE IS YOUR DREAM VACATION? Find that location on your phone What is it near? What is it around? What surrounds it? How would you explain where it’s located to someone else?

5 Relative Location Add to your definitions!! Relative Location: a point or place in relation to another point or place – Examples: It’s down the road from Wal-Mart It’s across the street from my house It’s next to Egypt It’s south of Mexico

6 Absolute Location 3 vacation destinations: Absolute Location: the EXACT location of a point or place – Examples: The high school is located at 600 Eagle Dr. Paris is at 48° N, 2° E

7 Check for Understanding Mexico is below the United States (Relative or Absolute) The address for the Freshman Campus is 600 S Westmoreland Road (Relative or Absolute) New York is located at 40 degrees north The football stadium is across from the Freshman Campus

8 Guided Practice Read Chapter 1: Section 2 Review vocab

9 Closure 1)Draw a circle – label the TWO significant lines of latitude and longitude 2)In 1-2 sentences explain the difference between relative and absolute location
