How to Use Facebook This guide will help you navigate around the social networking site, Facebook.

The point of this guide is to direct the user in operating the social network site, Facebook. Facebook’s purpose is to connect people, and it is ideal to keep up friends, family, and colleagues. This guide should be used to begin the set-up of your Facebook and to search, make a post, send a message, and make/join a group. Introduction

Table of Contents Get onto Website Create an Account How to Use Search Make a Post Upload Pictures How to Message Make/Join a Group Contacting Help

Get onto Website The first step in starting your journey with Facebook is actually getting onto the website. In the URL, type facebook.com. It should load this page.

Create an Account When there is nobody previously logged in, the page will show this “Sign Up” automatically. Fill in your name, email, password, birthday, and gender. The website needs your birthday to verify your age, and it needs your email to send confirmation for the account.

Email Confirmation Once you click on the “Sign Up” button, Facebook will tell you to confirm your email address. It will show you this message. Make sure to check your email to continue your process.

Find Friends Once you confirm your email, you’ll click on the link. It will bring you to this page. From your email, Facebook will suggest a friend for you. You can add them or you can click the “Skip,” next to the “Save & Continue.” It will then prompt you to find other friends through email, but you can skip it the same way as before.

Fill Out Information The next step is to fill out information. It asks you about your high school, college, and hometown so it can connect you to people you may know.

Choose Interests Facebook will then prompt you to tell it some of your interests. This will help the website put advertisements on your newsfeed. You may skip this option the same way you did with finding your friends.

Add Profile Picture The final step for setting up your account is selecting a profile picture. You do not need to put one of your actual self, but it does help others recognize you.

Logging In You are finally done! Now once you try to log in again, you will fill in this part of the site. Put in your email address and then your password.

How to Search You may want to search for people that you know to become friends with them. The Search bar at the top your Facebook page is where you’ll do this.

Search Friends When searching friends, all you need to do is enter their name. If they have things in common with you like your school or hometown, then they will show up in the list below before you officially conduct the search.

Search Groups/Pages You can do the same for the search of groups as you did with the friends.

Advanced Search With the advanced search, you do it within the search bar. You can add where someone lives (like the example) or where they went to school. You can add whichever category to find someone more specifically.

Make a Post Once you are ready to view your newsfeed, you can make a post. Just type in whatever you want and press send. You can also add a picture to your status update. You can also comment on others post or like it. You can press on the thumbs up to like it or write in the comment box for a comment.

Upload Pictures To add pictures to albums, you need to click on your photos button on your profile. You can then click the “Create Album” button to add more pictures.

How to Message To create a message, you can click on the Message tab on the side of your newsfeed. Type in the name of the person you want to message and then create your message and send.

Make/Join a Group To create a group, you can click on the bottom of the list on the side of your profile. It will then give you steps in developing your group. You can be added to a group and you will also see it in this list.

Contacting Help If you need addition help, go to the down arrow on the right side of the page and click it. It will have a drop down menu. You can then click on Help or the other options to answer your additional questions.
