1 WI SHRM CHAPTERS MAKE A DIFFERENCE! June 10 th & 11 th, 2010

2 Background: WISHRM wanted to organize an effort across the state whereby HR professionals could work together to give back to their communities. Each Chapter was asked to choose a non-profit(s) in their community and then coordinate an event where members could give of their time and resources to make an impact locally. 2

4 Chapter Tasks:  Rally the troops and help organize the day  Determine what non- profit(s) to work with in their community  Chapters were asked to communicate back to WISHRM on their event details by April 1 st.  Chapters were asked to track volunteers and their accomplishments and to take pictures that day and share them with WISHRM 4

5 MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY ACTIVITIES ACROSS THE STATE 5

6 Blackhawk: Partnered with the SW Workforce Development Board and Rock County Job Service. Resume Writing and Interview Workshops were provided for displaced workers. 6

7 CHIPPEWA VALLEY: Members prepared and served food at the Community Table 7

8 FOND DU LAC: Volunteered during Walleye Weekend in June. Members did face painting, assisted with children’s activities, and served food at the Rotary Tent. 8

9 Fox Valley: Fox Valley SHRM sponsored a home for Rebuilding Together Fox Valley’s Annual Project Day on Saturday, May 1 st. Twenty-five volunteers helped with landscaping, painting, flooring, and installing doors for a Fox Valley family. 9

10 Green Bay: 31 chapter volunteers assisted Brown County DWD & Forward Services staff with a full day of job search related programs 10

11 Greater Madison Area: Fourteen members assisted at three different food pantries in the area. 11

12 Jefferson: JCHRMA partnered with St. Coletta, which is an organization that cares for individuals with developmental and other disabilities. Six members planted bulbs, pulled weeds, and cleaned up two group homes. 12

13 LaCrosse: Fifteen LaCrosse members helped with the following activities in their community:  Serving lunch and dinner at the Salvation Army  Helping with game booths at the Riverfront Picnic  Gardening for members in the community 13

14 Lakeshore: Collected food donations for the local Domestic Violence Shelter. Cash contributions were also collected and provided to the local American Red Cross. 14

15 Metro Milwaukee: Led a Workforce Readiness Program for area youth, ages 16 – 21 years old at the Milwaukee Center for Independence. Fifty volunteers provided interviewing, resume building, networking, and other job readiness skill sessions to over 150 Milwaukee students. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett attended. 15

16 Oshkosh: Working with local Workforce Development office on providing interview and resume writing workshops – date TBD. 16

17 St. Croix: The St. Croix chapter will be participating with the Feed My Starving Children project in August. This effort will include packing bulk food items for UNICEF, to help poor children all over the world. 17

18 Thank you to all of our participating chapters and volunteers, who helped to make our first Make a Difference Day a huge success! 18
