2 Welcome! What is “ TOOLS 4 SCHOOLS ?” Who may participate? How do we get free school supplies? Things to keep in mind about T4S

3 TOOLS 4 SCHOOLS Liaison Responsibilities Send updated paperwork annually to enroll your school Attend Liaison Orientation Promote the program within your school Inform teachers about how to make appointments and access program AND NO OPEN TOE SHOES Procure and share supplies with others at the school Share information and updates with faculty Provide feedback to Kids Division staff

5 Where does TOOLS 4 SCHOOLS get supplies? Donation Drives Private Donors and Grant Funds Corporations

6 How should supplies be used? To help underprivileged kids succeed To enhance classroom learning To create a better classroom environment To reward outstanding behavior and volunteerism Only items specified as “bonus” or “gift” items are intended for personal use

7 Who may participate? Districts of: –Newark –Elizabeth –Irvington –Hillside –Paterson –Plainfield –Jersey City –East Orange –New Brunswick –Orange –Perth Amboy Within each district: –Public Schools (Pre-K to 12 th Grade) –Educational Programs (Academically based, curriculum) –All must have at least 70% Free and Reduced School Lunch eligibility

8 Who may participate? Eligible: Full-time, certified teachers & T4S liaisons –Self-contained –Academic subjects: Math, Reading, Social Studies, Science, etc. –Other subjects: Art, Music, Health Not Eligible: Non-instructional and non-certified staff –Aides/assistants, substitutes, tutors –Guidance/social work staff –Administrators, other staff

9 How do you get free supplies? 13 If you already have a log in and password what to do? School must be enrolled with roster on file EXISTING teachers must visit our website to click on the existing teacher registration and update their information. 15 Reasons why your registration might be denied… School is not registered Your name is not on the Teacher Roster Your position is not approved to shop If you are experiencing any of the above issues click on the “Help Request” button. Please allow 24 hours before calling the office. Once we verify the issue we will contact you via telephone or email.

16 Appointment Step two Next, the teacher revisits the website and clicks on the schedule button to choose an available date. A confirmation is sent to the teacher. It should be printed out and brought to the appointment.

19 Cancel appointments 24 hours in advance… The system only allows one visit per semester. If you fail to cancel your appointment, your visit will be forfeited. If you cancel within 24 hours of your appointment, you will be permitted to reschedule.

20 Shopping Hours -Semester 1 August 31 through December 4 -Semester 2 January 11, 2014 through June 3, 2015 -The Resource Center is open Monday-Thursday 3:00pm- 5:00 pm -Late Night Tuesdays 3:00pm to 5:30 pm -One Saturday per month 10:00 am – 12:00 pm -Liaisons only may shop by appointment Thursdays 1:00 – 2:00pm

21 What happens at an appointment? Check in with receptionist & walk to Kids Division Sign in at Tools 4 Schools Resource Center desk & complete paperwork. You must provide an ID. Staff member will explain process and rules. Shoppers receive 1 shopping cart, 30 minutes and up to 1,000 points Shoppers must keep track of items while shopping, clean up after themselves and return cart. T4S Liaison trips 60 minutes and up to 3,000 points

22 Please keep in mind… No open toe shoes allowed. No children are permitted. Guests are not permitted. Some exceptions may apply but guests must be approved in advance of your visit Strict penalties for: missed appointments, not following procedures & rules, failing to return shopping cart. When it rains, the parking lot sometimes floods and teacher shopping may be cancelled. Please call first before you make the trip, to be sure we are open!

23 Other Business… Teachers may only shop once per semester. Anyone who found in violation of this policy will be reported to his/her respective liaison and suspended from future participation. Schools may be visited on occasion in order to monitor use of Tools 4 Schools supplies.

24 Other Business Cont… Reports may be provided each semester to principals detailing who has shopped and what they received. Bags or boxes may be brought for packing but must remain outside of the Resource Center. If it is suspected that a teacher is abusing the program, he or she will be terminated from the program and his/her principal will be notified.
