2 Stone Age Vocabulary Old Stone Age = Paleothic age Paleo is the greek word for old Lithic is the greek word for stone New Stone Age = Neolithic age Neo is the greek word for new

3 Paleolithic period Men fished and hunted for meat. Women, children, and the old gathered whatever they could find that was edible. People didn´t have permanent homes, they were nomads that moved around in big groups. If there was no more food in one area they had to move where there was food to survive. They lived in caves and huts.

4 Paleolithic period People wore clothes made out of fur and animal skin from animals they killed for food. The climate at the time was very cold so people dressed to stay warm.

5 Paleolithic period People painted images on the walls of caves. This is paleolithic cave art in northern Spain.

6 Neolithic period People learned to grow their own food through agriculture and farming. People also domesticated animals. Because people grew their own food they settled in one place to live. They built their homes out of wood or mud bricks.

7 Neolithic period People invented different tools, such as farming tools. They learnt to make more things with different materials. For example they made pottery from clay. People still wore animal skin for clothing, but they also made fabric from the wool of their sheep. They invented spindles to turn wool into yarn.
