2 Freud & Psychology Who’s Freud ?
He is one of the most famous thinkers in psychology history. He’s a psychologist who came up with theory’s and certain ways to help people explain/express what they feel. He discovered the concept of psychoanalysis . It’s the treatment of someone who has mental problems. You ask them questions to find out the cause for their condition. What is psychology? The study of how humans function and think. Soma is an example of psychology.

3 Why it’s important? Freud's work gives an understanding to an important change in psychology that helped us on how we think about mental health and how we act on psychological disorders. Freud and his theories help people make good decisions. And help us figure out what others are thinking/feeling.

4 How does Huxley use psychology to point out flaws?
The state uses science to build/create a happy world through things like feelies (movies where people can react and feel as if it’s real).

5 Conditioning A process of changing behavior by rewarding or punishing a subject each time an action is performed. Conditioning is important to this novel “Brave New World” because they used it to train infants.

Used to convince people to be happy by telling them random opinions “A gram is better than a damn,” quote used to have people do SOMA Used to show flaws in people being influenced by their society

9 What is advertisement?? Advertisement is a form used by businesses to market and to sponsor their products, business also use advertisement to persuade and to communicate the product that is being sold to an audience. Others say that Advertisement is used to persuade or to trick someone into thinking they need to buy something that in reality they don’t need

10 Manipulation of the Mind
Many of these big named companies use big named celebrities to advertise their products. They use celebrities to trick people into thinking that something is working for them so it has to work for you too.

11 Advertisement in Brave New World
In Brave New World by Aldous Huxley the government advertises soma by saying that it’s a good idea to take soma and that by taking it you will feel better or it will relieve you from the stress you have.

12 Propaganda A form of communication aimed towards influencing the attitude of the community toward some cause or position by presenting only one side of an argument May be partly false and partly true Repeated and distributed over a wide variety of media Presents facts selectively to encourage a particular idea

Propaganda is used to make believe what they want them to believe is true SOMA is used to alter people’s perception on reality and make them think they’re happy Propaganda is presented through hypnosis “Never put off till tomorrow the fun you can have today.” Serves to maintain the ignorant carefree attitude of society The consequences are not mentioned People don’t know what they are saying means

Promoted people to grow their own foods to keep the prices of war down Why We Fight, famous series of US government propaganda films made to justify why the US was at war Presents information to the principles that Army was fighting for

15 Nazi Propaganda Nazi propaganda used to maintain power and spread their ideology Also used to justify the Holocaust Wanted people to side with them and hate the Jews Nazis closed all opposing newspapers Newspapers available to Germans’ were controlled by Nazis’ Germans could only read good things about the Nazis’ Hitler rewrote all textbooks to say good things about people with pure German blood and the Nazis’ Made Hitler look like a god
