5 T HE L ANGUAGE C URRICULUM Reading –The students will read and examine a variety of texts and genres Writing –Genres & Structures The students will practice writing in diverse contexts Students will be taught about the 6 Traits of Writing –Language Conventions Verbs in the present and past tense Nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, homophones, synonyms Sentence structure and types of sentences Oral Communication & Media Literacy –Oral presentations, read-alouds –Smart Board & computer skills

8 S OCIAL S TUDIES C URRICULUM –Canada and World Connections: Provinces, Territories & Physical Regions –Canadian Shield, Great Lakes Lowlands, St. Lawrence Lowlands, Hudson Bay Lowlands, Interior Plains, Arctic Lowlands, Cordilleras, Appalachian region –Heritage & Citizenship Medieval Times –The medieval social pyramid, medieval construction, the Magna Carta, as well as medieval foods, clothes and traditions.
