2 What is stress?  The body’s reactions to any demand or change placed upon it. Can stress be positive?

3 Types of Stress  Distress : negative stress. Stress that prevents you from doing what you need to do or that causes you discomfort  Eustress : positive stress. Stress that can help you to accomplish goals.

4 Distress  Distress causes these symptoms : Feeling worried and uptight Discomfort and illness Lower performance level Feeling tired

5 Eustress  Eustress causes these symptoms : Good feelings Feeling of excitement Motivation Peak Performance Higher Achievement

26 Alarm Stage  The body recognizes a stressor  The body quickly reacts to take action

28 Resistance Stage  Stressor continues and the body tries to withstand the stress and return to normal

29 Exhaustion Stage  The body can no longer cope with the stress and you become physically and/or mentally exhausted  Deplete body’s resources. So we function at less than normal
