2 Project Topics What makes our community unique? Geography Map Skills Writing Letters Compare and Contrast Creating a Podcast  Students will survey parents, classmates, and our community to identify 7 wonders of Columbus. Each group will research their wonder to persuade a visitor to the Columbus area to visit their wonder. All the wonders will be recorded to create a podcast about Columbus, Indiana. To compare other communities, students will read Flat Stanley and write letters to family friends in other parts of the country or world. We will mark on a map where we get our return letters from to introduce geography and map skills. Project #3: No Place Like Home

(pages 4-9) Read in your Social Studies – Communities Big and Small (pages 12-17) Read in your Social Studies – Our Country’s Geography (pages 18-25) ***Make sure you are filling out your study guide as you read the lessons from your Social Studies book. Our Country’s Geography mapping skills activity Thursday Main Idea Task Cards – Read each story and answer the question. Make sure you match the number on the card to the number on your answer sheet. Complete your graphic organizer of background information on your location as well as reasons to visit. Read two times on your own then read into audacity. Listen to your recording before reading again into audacity. 6 Noise Level 1 Monday Measuring length game Tuesday Measuring classroom objects and deciding what unit of length is best for measuring each object (inch, foot, yard) Wednesday Perimeter Pictures - Create a picture on graph paper and find the perimeter of each shape of the picture. Thursday - Friday Pattern Block Toss - Toss each shape 25 times and record on the tally chart the outcome of each toss. Enrichment: Create a bar graph to display your outcomes.
