3 Our Purpose today is to Review graduation requirements (Yes Again) Review college entrance requirements Remind you how to best use the catalog Remind you of the registration process Answer your questions about classes etc. On March 12th we will come and review your transcript and complete a box page with you for your student led conference.

4 Purpose Continued The ultimate goal is that by next week you will have selected the classes you need for graduation and for college. You have only a short time to –Select your classes –Get teacher’s signatures –Get your parent’s signatures –Classes will be entered on the computer at assigned times on March 18 th -20 th

5 Graduation Requirements 4 years Language Arts 2.5 years Social Studies -US History 1 – 2 -Global Issues or AP Euro Hist. -Civics or AP US Gov and Pol. 3 years Math -Algebra -Geometry -Adv. 7 Specific Math Requirements Must pass – Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 Must pass – Geo 1 and Geo 2 Must pass – Adv. Alg 1 and Adv. Alg 2 or a selected cross credit course. Any cross credit selection must complete an approval form with your counselor and your parent for this to count.

9 Graduation Requirements cont’d You need 22.50 credits to graduate Must pass the HSPE Reading and Writing Must pass the Algebra OR Geometry EOC Must pass the Biology EOC Complete a culminating project (Portfolio). This information is on our website – you may start some things now like Raven Service Hours

10 HSPE/EOC REQUIREMENTS Reading, Writing, Math Must pass OR Take Alternate test like SAT, ACT, or AP and score at the benchmark level –but only after you have tried the HSPE once OR Complete the COE Collection of Evidence and have it accepted by the State–but only after you have tried the HSPE once

15 Request for a Counselor Recommendation Recommendation/Secondary School Report Typically for students using SendEdu and Common Applications. Before a counselor can complete any recommendations or Secondary School Report the following items must be completed and returned to the counselor:

17 Counselor must have a minimum of two (2) weeks to complete the recommendation/form. Counselors recommend that the student sign the waiver of right to see the recommendation. Doing this enhances the recommendation credibility on the part of the College/Scholarship. It is however, your choice.

18 Registration 1.Begin choosing classes for next year. 2.The form ( 4Year Plan )can be found on the counseling office website. 3.List them in the corresponding boxes for the grade level (12 th Grade) you will be in next year on the Pathways to Success. 4.Also put the course code (see examples) on the left hand side of each semester.

20 Registration Codes can be found in the catalog next to the course title. They are needed so you can find each class in the computer when you enter your classes during registration. Yearlong classes will have two codes so you should complete one box for each semester.

22 Registration Sheet Due to course availability students are not able to always get their first choice in courses. It is very important that students also select alternates. Please list alternates in the boxes at the very right of the selection sheet. Please rank order them. (1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd …) *Next year’s seniors will need to list 4 Alternate English classes and possibly other specific alternates to meet certain core required classes for graduation.

24 Things to think about… RAVEN DAY in August 19 Sports physicals – after June 1st Running Start/Moving out of the district Auto/Cosmetology Applications Have a full load of courses ready to enter into the computer.

25 Things to think about… SAT/ACT testing for College – This Spring College visits 4yr – 2yr – Technical too! Keep in mind NCAA/NAIA requirements if you plan to play sports in college. Pg 21 –These are constantly changing –Earn a GPA in core academic courses of at least 2.00 (on a 4.00 scale.)

26 Things to think about… New Class Offerings –AP Comparative Government –Robotics –Digital Photography –Walking/Aerobics –Really Walking –Personal Finances This will also work as a Cross Credit for 3 rd year of Math!

27 COLLEGE BOUND ATHLETES - NCAA Earn a GPA of at least 2.00 (on a 4.00 scale.) This GPA is calculated for only the core academic courses which were successfully completed during grades 9-12. Only courses that have been approved by the Clearinghouse are accepted In addition, no special values are allowed for “+” or “-” grades. Core Units Required for NCAA Certification 16 DII 16 DI English Core 3 years 4 years Math Core *2 years *3 years Science Core 2 years 2 years Social Science Core 2 years 2 years English, Math, or Science 3 year 1 year Additional Core 4 years 4 years (English, Math, Science, Social Science, Foreign Language, Philosophy, Non-doctrinal Religion) *Division I certification requires 1 year of Algebra and 1 year of Geometry (or a course for which Geometry is a prerequisite.) Foundations Mathematics does not count.
