1 Journalism Project Module JN503 45 Credits Assessment: 100% Project

2 What must you submit? An extended piece of original journalism to be presented as either i) a 5,000 word investigation or feature for publication in a newspaper or magazine ii) a 30-minute long investigation, documentary or feature for broadcast on radio iii) a 15-minute long investigation, documentary or feature for broadcast on television iv) a unique multimedia investigation or report presented as an online package containing a range of audio, video, text, graphics and stills. Students who choose options i), ii) and iii) must also present their project as a coherent multimedia package including original elements. Students who choose option iv) will be required to present, in addition to their multimedia package, complementary examples of audio, video and text reporting suitable for broadcast or for publication in a newspaper or magazine.

3 What support is available? Classes such as this one will cover story selection, selection of medium, ethical problems in long-form journalism and management of time and resources. Subject specialists in radio, television, print and online journalism will provide workshop seminars covering topics such as Project Design and positive examples of long-form journalism. Each student will be allocated a Project Supervisor who will be a member of the academic staff of the Centre for Journalism. Students will meet their Project Supervisor for at least three hours of one-to-one supervision per term.

6 The Pitch Upload to the Centre for Journalism website by noon on Friday 25 October 2013 a clear and compelling pitch for your project. This should be no more than 500 words long and should include A working title and outline description Your proposed primary medium A brief outline of the acts of journalism you plan to commit in pursuit of your story.
