2 COURSE OBJECTIVES:

3 - To enable a student to read, understand and evaluate materials of a social, political and economic nature.

4 - To enable a student opportunities to respect/be proud of: themselves, their family/culture and their country.

5 - To develop in the student the ability to demonstrate a positive decision making role in his/her community.

6 - To improve analysis, reading, writing, organizational and map reading skills.

7 - To be responsible for completing assigned work on time.

8 COURSE DESCRIPTION: Constitutional Convention

9 We will be studying U.S. History from 1754 - 1865. Topics will include: U.S. Supreme Court Building

10 The 13 English Colonies

11 From Revolution to Republic,

12 Forming a Government

13 The New Republic

14 A New National Identity James Monroe Andrew Jackson

15 An Expanded Nation

16 Sectionalism/Civil War

17 PROJECTS: students will also be required to complete several projects William Penn Congressional Medal of Honor Project Colonial Brochure Project

18 Several short research papers will be required

19 Political Party Project

20 Battle of Bunker Hill re-enactment – Marines train students in basic drill

21 Battle Re-enactment Day

22 Memorial Day Projects/Letters

23 Debt letters

24 TEXTBOOKS: 1. U.S. History Beginnings to 1877. 2. Creating America Available on line.

25 Literature Books 1. Rise to Rebellion – Jeff Shaara 2. Killer Angels – Michael Shaara

26 - Test reviews are conducted the day prior to each test

27 - TESTS: Tests are announced several days in advance. Copies of tests available upon request AFTER all students have completed.

28 NOTEBOOKS
