3 Basic Ladders Industrial Type I–Industrial: Heavy-duty with a load capacity not more than 250 pounds. Commercial Type II–Commercial: Medium-duty with a load capacity not more than 225 pounds. Household Type III–Household: light-duty with a load capacity of 200 pounds. Most common household ladder is the step ladder

Purchasing Ladders Only purchase ladder’s with the UL seal from Underwriter’s Laboratory Ladders commonly come in three materials: ◦Aluminum ◦Wood ◦Fiberglass Aluminum is most durable but: ◦Conducts electricity Wood may rot Fiberglass is the best combination of durability and non- conductivity ◦But is also the most expensive

Inspecting When setting up a ladder, especially when its been in storage for a while, inspect it for any cracks or broken joints Set it in on an even, flat surface ◦Never place ladder on top of something else

Proper set up Place base of the ladder 1 foot away of whatever the ladder is leaning against ALWAYS ALWAYS face the ladder when climbing or descending from it keep both feet on rungs ◦Don’t place one foot on another surface

Ladder Safety Do not climb higher than the second rung NEVER NEVER stand on top of step ladder or paint self of the ladder Keep bellybutton position between the rungs

Continue… Never leave ladders unattended when around kids. ◦They love ladders When working with electricity, use a ladder made out of wood or fiber glass.
