4. Key Concept 1 P4.3: Matter exists in several different states; the most commonly encountered are solid, liquid, and gas. Each state of matter has unique properties. For instance, solids and liquids are not easily compressed; the shape of a solid is independent of its container; liquids and gases take the shape of their containers. Students should describe, categorize, the three states of matter: Solids have a definite shape and volume. Liquids are loosely packed and have no definite shape. Gases Particles move freely. High energy. Sorting and classificati on based on the properties of matter Physical properties can be observed or measured without changing the composition of matter. Physical properties include: appearance, texture, color, odor, melting point, boiling point, density solubility, polarity, and many others. MST Lesson 4: “It’s time for Liquid to change”  Students will observe the properties of water as a solid, liquid and gas.  Students will then conduct an experiment and work collaboratively with a partner.  Finally students will create a PowerPoint presentation on their findings on the Properties of Liquid.
