2 www.umbc.edu What is the Faculty Annual Report (FAR)? ●A summary of a faculty member’s work and accomplishments in the previous calendar year ●A source of data for the Faculty Workload Report that UMBC submits annually to the University System of Maryland ●A source of data for UMBC’s academic program reviews December 5, 2007

All regular faculty members ●Tenured and tenure-track faculty ●Non-tenure track faculty ●Research faculty ●Visiting faculty ●Instructors and lecturers ●Clinical faculty ●Librarians ●Faculty on leave ●Sabbatical, leave without pay, fellowship leave December 5, 2007

5 www.umbc.edu How is the report used? ●Chair’s and Dean’s annual merit review ($$$) ●Annual and comprehensive (5-year) review of tenured faculty ●Publication of faculty scholarly productivity ●Faculty Workload Report to University System December 5, 2007

6 www.umbc.edu Accessing the FAR ●Enter myUMBC and Log In ●Click the Academics tab ●Move to the Faculty Options section ●Select “Enter and review my Faculty Report” December 5, 2007

7 www.umbc.edu User Profile Page ●Select the appropriate calendar year ●Note availability of Instructions and Guidelines ●Check browser settings ●Review the personal information ●Review the sections to be completed and revise if necessary ●Be sure to click on “Apply Changes” if you have made any changes December 5, 2007

9 www.umbc.edu Sections Completed ●The left drop-down menu shows sections of the FAR that you have selected and that need to be completed. ●You can work on a section, save your work, and come back to it at a later time. ●If you have indicated that a section is complete, that section will now appear in the “Completed” drop-down menu. ●Sections “Completed” are still available for editing. 10 www.umbc.edu Single Entry Sections Some sections of the report are termed single-entry sections because there is only one copy of the section included in the report. Examples: Instructional Activities Position Demographics Time Spent December 5, 2007

11 www.umbc.edu Multiple Entry Sections Some sections of the report can be completed multiple times, once for each item in a category of activities or achievements. Examples:Honors and Awards Meetings Attended Publications December 5, 2007

12 www.umbc.edu Copying Sections of the FAR An important and convenient feature of the FAR is that you can copy a section from a previous year’s report to the current year and edit it rather than entering it from scratch again. Uses: Listing your graduate advisees Listing the journals for which you review Entering meetings attended December 5, 2007

13 www.umbc.edu Printing the FAR ●In the upper right drop-down box, select “Summary of Your Report” ●Select the sections you wish to view ●Click “Display Summary” ●Review your report in the screen, checking for typographical and factual errors ●Return to the previous screen OR ●Return to the top of the display and click “Print Summary of Your UMBC Faculty Report” ●Select your printer’s Landscape mode for printing December 5, 2007

14 www.umbc.edu Submit Your Report! ●Review your printed report ●Sign and date the report ●Submit it to your Department Chair! December 5, 2007
