3 MJH_teacher My mornings Every morning, at 7:00 the alarm clock sounds. I open my eyes, brush my teeth and comb my hair. My mother boils the water and prepares coffee. I prepare myself a cup of cocoa. At 7:40 I open the door and walk to school. I always come to school on time. Yesterday morning… When we speak about daily routines and habits we use the Present Simple. כשאנחנו מדברים על דברים שקורים בדרך כלל, הרגלים, שיגרה, אנחנו משתמשים בהווה הרגיל.

4 MJH_teacher Yesterday morning I opened my eyes at 7:30. I brushed my teeth and combed my hair. My mother boiled the water and prepared coffee. I prepared myself a cup of cocoa. At 7:55 I opened the door and rushed to school. I ran as quickly as I could and I came to school on time. When we speak about an action that happened in the past and was finished, we use the Simple Past. כשאנחנו מדברים על דברים שקרו בעבר והסתיימו, אנחנו משתמשים בעבר הרגיל.

5 MJH_teacher Time expressions that usually indicate the simple past: yesterday a… (moment/ week/month/ year) ago last… (night/Sunday/week/month/year) in/on a past date (in 1960 / on 25/10/1960 ) When? – Commonly used time expressions

6 MJH_teacher How do we form it? A- Usually, we make the simple past by adding – ed to the base form of the verb. ברוב הפעלים, כדי לדבר על פעולה בעבר נוסיף לצורת הבסיס של הפועל -ed. צורת הפועל זהה ביחיד וברבים, בזכר ובנקבה. בדוגמה דלעיל – opened, brushed, combed, boiled, walked

7 MJH_teacher How do we form it? B- When the regular verb ends with “-e” we make the simple past by adding –d to the base form. בדוגמה דלעיל – prepare - prepared כשהפועל מסתיים באות e -, נוסיף לצורת הבסיס של הפועל - d. צורת הפועל זהה ביחיד וברבים, בזכר ובנקבה.

C1- When the regular verb ends with “- Consonent+ y” we make the simple past by replacing the y – i and adding –ed to the base form. לדוגמה - For example: try - tried, copy - copied, carry - carried כשהפועל מסתיים באות y - ולפניה עיצור ( לא אחת מאותיות aeiou ) נחליף את ה - y ב - i ונוסיף לצורת הבסיס של הפועל - ed כרגיל.

15 MJH_teacher How do we form it? C2- When the regular verb ends with “- Vowel+ y” we make the simple past by adding –ed to the base form. For example: play - played stay - stayed לדוגמה - כשהפועל מסתיים באות y -, ולפניה אחת מאותיות aeiou נוסיף לצורת הבסיס של הפועל - ed כרגיל.

Practice again and again. איך לומדים ? מתרגלים שוב ושוב. Are there rules for the irregular verbs? No. The only way is to learn them by heart. האם יש כללים איך לדעת את צורת העבר שלהם ? לא. הדרך היחידה היא ללמוד בעל - פה. It is practice time

Yes, I ate lunch. / No, we didn’t eat lunch. כדי לשאול " האם " ( התשובה - כן / לא ) נשתמש בפועל העזר Did ולאחריו יבוא הפועל תמיד בצורת הבסיס. בתשובה – נשתמש בפועל בצורת העבר ( רגיל או מיוחד )

WH questions in the past-2 כדי לשאול שאלות תוכן (WH) נשתמש במילת השאלה, לאחריה פועל העזר did והנושא ולאחריו יבוא הפועל תמיד בצורת הבסיס. (= מילת השאלה ולאחריה שאלת " האִם ".) בתשובה – נשתמש בפועל בצורת העבר ( רגיל או מיוחד ).
