1 Electronic Notecard # 1 Source: Joseph A. Montagna, The Industrial Revolution, 2001, Volume 2 http://www.yale.edu/ynhti/curriculum/units/1981/2/81.02.06.x.html#top http://www.yale.edu/ynhti/curriculum/units/1981/2/81.02.06.x.html#top Subject: Industrial revolution, social changes, Keywords: Revolution, changes, society Abstract: The era known as the Industrial Revolution was a period in which fundamental changes occurred in agriculture, textile and metal manufacture, transportation, economic policies and the social structure in England. This period is appropriately labeled “revolution,” for it thoroughly destroyed the old manner of doing things The changes that occurred during this period (1760-1850), in fact, occurred gradually The year 1760 is generally accepted as the “eve” of the Industrial Revolution Advances in agricultural techniques and practices resulted in an increased supply of food and raw materials, changes in industrial organization and new technology resulted in increased production, efficiency and profits, and the increase in commerce, foreign and domestic, were all conditions which promoted the advent of the Industrial Revolution The changes of the Industrial Revolution were made because of the new technology and inventions. This information will help me complete my assignment since it is the reason of the start of the major changes in the Industrial revolution.

Subject: Industrial revolution, agricultural revolution Keywords: agriculture, industries, factories Abstract: The industrial revolution was a time in England when people started to industrialize. With all of the change brought on by the Industrial Revolution, agriculture and farming families changed too. With all of the machines not as many farm workers were needed so they had to move to cities to find work. Before the Industrial Revolution about 75% of British people lived in the country and farmed. Families had to move to factory cities and the whole family had to work in factories, even kids It is important to know what was before the industrial revoultion and how the revolutionichanged it.

Subject: Machines, technology, First Industrial Revolution, Second Industrial revolution Keywords: coal, machinery, innovations, steam The term Industrial Revolution is used to describe profound economic transformations resulting from the introduction of new technologies of production The First Industrial Revolution began in Great Britain in the last decades of the eighteenth century. It resulted from the rapid adoption of three new technologies--the steam engine, relying on the energy of the fossil fuel, coal; machines for spinning thread and weaving cloth and increasingly driven by steam rather than water power; and furnaces--blast, puddling, and rolling--to make iron ore into finished metal by using coal. The coming of the First Industrial Revolution in Britain had as significant an impact on American economic life as did the contemporary political revolution that brought the country's independence. The Second Industrial Revolution began about a century later and was centered in the United States and Germany. It resulted from a wave of innovations in the production of metals and other materials, machinery, chemicals, and foodstuffs. the transfer of the new technologies across the Atlantic gave the United States its first industrial factories, large mills that integrated spinning and weaving machinery in a single building. It is important to know the difference between the first and the second industrial revolution. Even though they lie in the same revolution it has many differences. Both brought a mayor change in the way of living and the economy.

Subject: Industrial Revolution, pollution Keywords: Environment, cultural and physical landscape The industrial revolution, a period of rapid change It transformed the cultural and physical landscape of England. Handmade products crafted in small-town shops gave way to urban factories and mechanized production. Textiles, shipbuilding, iron, and steel emerged as important industries, and the country's population increasingly migrated to urban areas to work in the factories. Coal fueled these industries, polluting the air with black smoke and dotting the countryside with mining spoil. This shows how it not only changed people but the environment, when the environment changes the society changes.

5 Electronic Notecard # 5 Source: “Industrial Revolution”, Fundamental shifts in social structure http://industrialrevolution.sea.ca/impact.html http://industrialrevolution.sea.ca/impact.html Subject: Industrial Revolution, America, Britain Keywords: Technology, industries, development, During the Industrial Revolution, the social structure of society changed dramatically. Before the Revolution most people lived in small villages, working either in agriculture or as skilled craftsmen. They lived and often worked as a family, doing everything by hand. However, the social changes that took place were not all negative. Most classes eventually benefited in some way from the huge profits that were being made, and by 1820 most workers were making somewhat better wages Since workers, especially women and children, were labouring for up to eighteen hours each day, there was very little family contact, and the only time that one was at home was spent sleeping. As a result, children received very little education, had stunted growth, and were sickly. They also grew up quite maladjusted, having never been taught how to behave properly. There were little or no government regulations imposed upon factory policies, and this allowed the wealthy, middle-class owners to pursue whichever path was most profitable, regardless of the safety and well being of their workers. It is important to know how the Industrial revolution affected the education and family. It not only changed things in general but in the lives of the people.

It created a specialized and interdependent economic life and made the urban worker more completely dependent on the will of the employer than the rural worker had been. The railroad and improved transportation preceded the introduction of the revolution into Germany, which is conventionally said to have accompanied the formation of the Zollverein; industrial Germany was created after 1850. The transformation of the United States into an industrial nation took place largely after the Civil War and on the British model. The Industrial Revolution was introduced by Europeans into Asia, and the last years of the 19th and the early years of the 20th cent. Saw the development of industries in India, China, and Japan. However, Japan is the only country of E Asia that may be said to have had a real Industrial Revolution. Everything changed with the growth of factories and technology. People started to depend on other people as well.
