Causes of the American Revolution There were many causes of the American Revolution. The first one is that the Americans were independent and they wanted to do have control and do things on their own. The second is that the British were making the Americans pay taxes from the Stamp Act and other things. The third one is “The Seven Years War”. The building tension between the Americans and the British.

The Stamp Act The Stamp Act was an act that was passed by the British Parliament on March 22 nd, 1765. It taxed the colonists for every piece of printing paper they used. Was repealed in 1766.

The Intolerable Acts Event that took place in 1774. A punishment towards the colonists because they dumped the British tea into the Boston Harbor. The punishment consisted of: The Boston Port Act: An act where the colonists had to pay the British for the lost tea. The Quartering Act: Any British soldier could go into any American household and request shelter, food, and anything else for as long as they wanted.

The Boston Tea Party Event that happened in 1773. Men dressed as Native Americans and threw all the British tea into the Boston Harbor. They were protesting because of “taxation without representation.” This means that the British were taxing them for no reason at all.

The Boston Massacre Event that happened in 1770. 5 colonists were shot by the British soldiers. The colonists became angry and started fighting with the British.

The Seven Years War The war started when England declared war on France. France was expanding down to the Ohio River Valley. The British didn’t like them doing this, so they declared war to fight for land. This led to an attack by George Washington, who was the general of the American side, and James Abercrombie, who was the general of the British side. Canada was allied with the French during this war. The French were forced to surrender to the British and gave up their land along the Ohio River Valley.

George Washington Was born in Virginia. Was 22 years old when he became general of the French and Indian War. He was chosen to become the leader because he knew the woods well.

All colonies sent delegates except for Georgia. Second Continental Congress: A second convention held in 1775 after the Battle of Lexington and Concord. The delegates gathered to discuss the militia and how to form it.

Battle of Lexington and Concord Took place on April 19 th, 1775. British militia was trying to attack colonists and take away their supplies in Concord, Massachusetts. 12 Siege of Fort Ticonderoga Took place on May 10 th, 1775. Ethan Allen and Benedict Arnold (American side) went on an expedition to seize Fort Ticonderoga. Burgoyne was going to pass through the woods to meet the Americans for battle. The Americans tried to block the way by cutting down trees and branches in their way. Burgoyne surrendered after supplies started running low and the men became exhausted.

Battle of Yorktown Took place from September 28 th to October 19 th, 1781. The French allied with the Americans during this battle. The French and Americans bombarded the British with battles until they were forced to surrender. The British surrendered to the French and Americans on October 19 th, 1781. This was the end of the American Revolution leaving the victory to the colonists.

France’s Opinion on the American Revolution France mostly supported the Americans. They sent spies to watch the American side of the battle. They also secretly would send supplies to the Americans. Peace treaty called The Treaty of Paris was signed in 1783. This was a peace agreement between France, Britain, and the United States. The French were especially helpful towards the Americans in the Battle of Yorktown.
