2 Our Cultural Mosaic Some cultural changes are caused by internal forces (attitudes) Other cultural changes result from outside influences (new technologies, travel and communication) For many years, Atlantic Canada developed with input from 3 main groups: Aboriginal Peoples, the French, and the British.

8 Our Cultural Mosaic What is Racism? pp. 86-92 The view that all members of a group are the same is known as a stereotype. A view based on previously held ideas, and not on knowledge or experience is a prejudice.

9 Our Cultural Mosaic These views may cause some to discriminate, or treat unfairly. Racism is the belief that a person’s abilities, personalities, and values are influenced by race, color, or ethnic origin.

13 Slide Show on Racism You will be required to create a slideshow with a partner on “Racism” and how to combat it. This show will be completed over two computer lab periods and will be presented to the class. Requirements: Use power point Must contain a minimum of 6 slides

14 Slide Show on Racism Slide 1 – title page: names, date, project, etc. Slide 2 – define important terms regarding racism. Slide 3 – include some aspect of racism, a problem, historical event, or story. Slide 4 – provide the 3 ways of combatting racism. Slide 5 – include a picture regarding your project Slide 6 – include references to document your research

15 Slide Show on Racism The project will be marked out of 10. 6 marks for your show, and 4 for presentation.
