9 GUIDELINE #1 Be in your assigned seat and working on the assigned WELCOME WORK when the tardy bell rings!

10 Mrs. Hollar’s Literature Lounge TODAY’S SPECIAL Welcome Work: “ If I could be Principal for the day..” Objectives: Students will be able to understand the classroom policies and procedures. AGENDA Planner: Assignments for each day are written in the planner. Reminders: Review Classroom rules, Guidelines, Procedures, AR tests, project deadlines, etc.

11 GUIDELINE #2 Bring ALL books and materials to class AND take them when you leave (including your TRASH).

12 GUIDELINE #3 Follow directions the FIRST time they are given.

13 GUIDELINE #4 Treat each person in the room with respect and dignity.

14 GUIDELINE #5 Follow ALL procedures and policies as outlined in the VMS and Ashland Independent Schools handbook.

15 Special GUIDELINE This classroom is a “NO WHINING ZONE.” That means there will be no whining for ANY reason. Everything that I do is in your best interest, so please… respect the “NO WHINING ZONE” this year !

20 SEVERE CLAUSE! ANY student who uses profanity, fights, damages school property (this includes the property of the teacher and other students), or is Disrespectful (as defined by the teacher) will be sent to the office IMMEDIATELY (with a discipline referral). ATTENTION!!!!!!!!!!

29 I expect you to be prepared with the required materials daily. However, I do have a limited supply of materials for your use. Go to the student supplies cart before class begins Leave your book for your next class Obtain the item needed and return to your seat. RETURN THE ITEM AT THE END OF THE CLASS PERIOD! CLASSROOM PROCEDURES BORROWING SUPPLIES

30 TURNING IN PAPERS CLASSROOM PROCEDURES All work should be turned in to the appropriate colored box in the back. I will not accept handed to me or put on my desk. All AR Tests must be turned in to the labeled AR Folders beside the colored boxes.

32 MOVING AROUND THE ROOM CLASSROOM PROCEDURES You must ask permission Do not ask during a classroom discussion unless it is an emergency

33 The teacher dismisses you, not the bell. Do not start packing up prior to the bell. Wait until the teacher finishes and officially dismisses you with: “Have a nice day!” CLASSROOM PROCEDURES CLASSROOM DISMISSAL

34 LIBRARY/MEDIA CENTER CLASSROOM PROCEDURES Our assigned library day is on Thursday. You may go to the library as needed, but you will need your agenda. When in the library, our classroom rules and guidelines remain. I expect EXCELLENT BEHAVIOR! When walking to the library I expect you to be quiet and respectful of the other classes in the building.

35 You will be assigned a computer number at the beginning of the year that you must remember. Each time we use the lab I expect you to use your assigned computer and plug it back in how you found it. When using the computers you must agree and comply with the Ashland Independent School District Acceptable Usage Policy. If you are caught breaking school policy, you will lose your computer privileges. CLASSROOM PROCEDURES MOBILE LAB

36 SPECIAL GUESTS/PRESENTERS CLASSROOM PROCEDURES When a guest comes to the room, please stay quiet and continue working. If we have a guest speaker/presenter, you are expected to be respectful and courteous giving the person your FULL ATTENTION!

37 When the morning or afternoon announcements and Channel 1 are on, you will watch, listen and sit quietly. This WILL NOT be used as time to talk! CLASSROOM PROCEDURES ANNOUNCEMENTS

38 ASSEMBLIES CLASSROOM PROCEDURES Anytime we leave the room, you will walk quietly and like 8 th graders in the hallway. When we are at the assembly, I expect you to enter appropriately and sit quietly.

39 In the event that I am absent from school, all classroom policies and guidelines will be followed! You are expected to be on your best behavior, and to treat the substitute with respect and courtesy! CLASSROOM PROCEDURES SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS

40 FIRE DRILL CLASSROOM PROCEDURES You will leave all belongings and exit the room when I instruct you to do so. You will go down the stairwell beside Mrs. Peterman’s classroom, and exit the building at the bottom of that stairwell. Keep walking down the stairs outside, and we will meet under a tree as a class.

41 During a Tornado drill, wait for my instruction and then exit the room. We will go to our assigned destination and you will kneel down in the floor with your hands covering your head. CLASSROOM PROCEDURES TORNADO DRILL

42 AR SIGN-INS CLASSROOM PROCEDURES EACH AR READING MUST BE SIGNED IN ON THE CLASS ROSTER. This roster is located in the AR Sign-in Folder in the back of the room by the colored boxes. Your book must be signed in by the assigned date. Failure to do this will result in a 10 point deduction on your test.

43 You will have two AR Tests due each nine weeks. The first book will be of an assigned genre, and you will complete a Book Review with this book. The second book will be your choice. You will have a project due at the same time that this test is due. The project can be on either book you have tested on in that nine week period. CLASSROOM PROCEDURES AR TESTS AND PROJECTS
