Goals 2 Students will demonstrate how to manage a robotics project; identify time management techniques; develop and maintain work schedules and meet deadlines; and and develop a plan for production of a robotics project. Copyright © Texas Education Agency, 2014. All Rights Reserved.

Terms (1 of 3) 3 Robotics- the science of technology of robots, their design, use, etc. Time Management- the ability to use one's time effectively or productively, especially at work. Project- an organized undertaking. Copyright © Texas Education Agency, 2014. All Rights Reserved.

Terms (2 of 3) 4 Scheduling- a plan of procedure (usually written) for a proposed objective, especially with reference to the sequence of and time allotted for each item or operation necessary to its completion (i.e., The schedule allows three weeks for this stage). Management- the people managing a business. Schedule- a timed plan for a project. Copyright © Texas Education Agency, 2014. All Rights Reserved.

Terms (3 of 3) 5 Weekly schedule- indicates which employees of a business are going to work at what times, to insure that labor resources are distributed effectively. Tasks- pieces of work to be done. To-do list- a list of tasks that need to be completed, typically organized in order of priority. Copyright © Texas Education Agency, 2014. All Rights Reserved.

Robotics Project 6 You will be assigned a robotics project to complete before we start the Robotics and Time Management slide presentation discussion. You will use this slide presentation to develop your Time Management Plan for your robotics project. Copyright © Texas Education Agency, 2014. All Rights Reserved.

Learn to Manage Your Time 7 Time is an “equal opportunity” resource. All people, regardless of their socioeconomic status, gender, ethnicity, physical challenges, cultural practices, or any other kind of “differences,” have exactly the same amount of time. Everyone gets 168 hours each week – no more, no less. Copyright © Texas Education Agency, 2014. All Rights Reserved.

System for Scheduling and Managing Time 8 People who accomplish a great deal place a high value on their time; and have a system for scheduling and managing their time. Copyright © Texas Education Agency, 2014. All Rights Reserved.

How Many Tasks and Hours? 10 Determine the tasks you will need to complete your robotics project. How many hours will you spend working on your robotics project? Will it take you five or more class periods to complete your robotics project? Copyright © Texas Education Agency, 2014. All Rights Reserved.

Reflection #1 11 On a scale of 0-10, how difficult is your robotics project? o 0 = Easy o 5 = Medium o 10 = Challenging Are you prepared for completing this robotics project? What grade do you expect to receive for your robotics project? Copyright © Texas Education Agency, 2014. All Rights Reserved.

Create Your Weekly Schedule 12 Your effectiveness and productivity as a student will be greatly enhanced by scheduling your time for your robotics project. Use your weekly schedule form and record the tasks you will complete during each class period. One advantage of making a schedule is that it gives you a graphic picture of your time management. 13 Create Your Weekly Schedule 13 1. Make a robotics project tasks to-do list. 2. Prioritize the tasks on your robotics project to-do list. 3. Rank the tasks from high-priority to low-priority (top to bottom). High-priority Medium-priority Low-priority Copyright © Texas Education Agency, 2014. All Rights Reserved.

Reflection #2 14 Once your robotics project tasks are scheduled, check to see if you have listed all tasks required to complete your robotics project. Copyright © Texas Education Agency, 2014. All Rights Reserved.

Commitment to Time Management 15 Making a weekly schedule, you will find, is easy and fun. Sticking to your daily tasks will be a challenge, but it is doable. Seriously sticking to your commitment to your robotics project is the key to success. Copyright © Texas Education Agency, 2014. All Rights Reserved.

Outline Your Robotics Project Tasks 16 Outline the time and tasks you actually work in red on your weekly schedule handout. Copyright © Texas Education Agency, 2014. All Rights Reserved.

Benefits of Scheduling Your Robotics Tasks 17 See immediately if you are over-extended. Keep up on your robotics project. Get immediate feedback as to how much you are actually working. Learn about yourself. Feel much less stressed. Copyright © Texas Education Agency, 2014. All Rights Reserved.

Conclusion 18 Time Management helps you do what needs to be done and helps you determine how urgent the tasks are. Keeping your weekly schedule serves as a reminder of what you did during this uniquely important period of your robotics engineering experience. Copyright © Texas Education Agency, 2014.
