The Maze Runner By: Adnan (Xavier) Fakhouri

2 S: Setting Thomas, the main character wakes up in a dark elevator shaft. He finds himself in an area with kids and teenagers that has a farm, gardens, a place to live called the homestead, nice grassy land, and a forest with a cemetery. There are four walls in this place and a maze outside that the people (called Gladers) do not know where it leads. The weather is always fair and musty, although it never rains. The setting is the place Thomas is in called the Glade. The year is unknown or if the setting is in the past, present, or future.

4 The Maze Probably Looks Something Like This But With Larger Walls.

5 C: Thomas Thomas is about a 16 year old boy who finds himself in the maze. He at first hates and feels very insecure. But then he adapts and starts meeting people. He keeps having weird thoughts that he has been to the maze before but like everybody else, does not remember his old life. He only thinks he remembers the girl who comes in the elevator he starts becoming a hero when he survives a whole night and the maze and decides he wants to be a runner. He is very confident and skeptical of what is going on in the Glade and this whole weird world he is in. I can imagine him with brown hair and not being the most athletic. The character is a major part because he is the main character. He is probably the protagonist in the book and gets used to life in the Glade so is dynamic.

6 This is how I imagine Thomas to look like.

7 C:Teresa Teresa arrives with a note reading that she is the last one to arrive in the Glade. She keeps muttering weird things. Thomas thinks he used to know her. She is put in a room to wait to see if she will recover. Teresa has a pale body with tar black hair. She is a major character helping to get them out of the maze remembering things. She has a secret telepathy with Thomas in which she can talk to him through telepathy. She is a protagonist and she is dynamic changing from gone mad to normal.

8 This is How I picture Teresa to look like.

9 C: Ben Ben is a 14 year old, I can imagine him looking a little overweight and with blonde hair. He goes mad and almost stabbed Thomas and he is killed. Static character that is an antagonist, the character is minor and has gone mad. He almost killed Thomas and is then punished by death. This is how Ben looks like before he went Mad in the Story

10 C:Clint Clint is a med-jack. Those are people who take care of wounded people in the Glade. He appears as he takes care of Teresa while she is in a sleep craze. He tells everyone she seems healthy but is not waking up from the weird state she is in. He is described as short with brown but gray hair coming in. He is a protagonist for helping the girl get fed and watching her. He is static because he never changes his attitude. He is very minor because he only comes in to help Teresa. This is Clint smiling as I picture him.

11 C: Alby Alby is probably 17 years of age, he is the leader in the Glade. He is a bit bossy but fairly nice to Thomas. Although he is a leader he is relatively not a huge part in the story based on everyone else. Has a static attitude, and is a protaganist because he is friends with Thomas. He is probably a strong and has brown hair and looks to be more serious and commanding than other people. Alby Most likely looks like this .

13 Figurative Language: Foreshadowing
66: “but he swore he saw the word wicked scrawled down on his back in large green letters.” 21: “The Changing. Gally had called it the Changing. It wasn't cold, but Thomas shuddered once again.” Wicked

14 Figurative Language: Simile

15 Figurative Language: Metaphor
1: “Harsh Sounds of chains and pulleys, like the workings of an ancients steel factory,”

16 Figurative Language: Alliteration
1: “Metal ground against metal; a lurching shudder shook the floor beneath him.”

17 Figurative Language: Personification
3: “The light stabbed his eyes.” 248: “,on top of which rested a lamp providing what light they had”

18 Figurative Language: Onomatopoeia
27: “pulling it shut behind him with a loud clonck.” 27: “a loud boom exploded through the air.”

19 P:Rising Action Rising action: When the action starts rising, Thomas discovers he really wants to escape from the Maze. He really wants to go back home but is unable to find an escape. He starts thinking that he has been to the maze before, what is happening to the girl, what is WICKED, and a lot of other things that need to be solved. So then the girl speaks to him in his mind and tells him she has triggered the ending. Then the maze doors do not close at night, the sky has no sun, and no supplies are coming in. This is where they really need to find a way out.

20 S: Climax Thomas goes through the changing and figures out they need to go through the Griever hole. They finally agree that they need to and it is their only hope. They have to fight off some grievers in the maze then jump down off the Cliff. Half of the people die in the process. Inside the Griever Hole, Teresa puts codes into a computer then has to press a button that says “Kill The Maze” and every Griever dies and a portal opens, then everyone goes down a slide and find themselves in a room with The Creators. This is the end of the escape from the Maze.

21 S: Falling Action The Gladers are rescued by an unknown rescuer and it is explained that they need to do these tests to save humanity from The Flare (solar flares hitting people and making them go mad) and that they will have to do something big. But then they arrive at a building where they eat dinner in a big common room then go to bed. The story ends wit Thomas feeling safe.

22 C: Conflict Man vs. nature: Thomas is stuck in the Maze and is forced to fight Grievers. Man vs. Society: Thomas has to get along with everyone in the Glade. Man vs. Self: Thomas has to prevent himself from going mad from the Maze and everything that happened in it and just keep trying to find a solution for solving the maze. Man vs. fate: Thomas has to keep living up to his goal to get back to his normal life and see his parents once again. Man vs. Man: Thomas has to defend himself in the forest from being killed by Ben.

23 T The theme of maze runner is even after not finding any escape in the Maze, the Gladers never gave up. In the story, Thomas is mad after he does not find anywhere to escape in the Maze. So he is very mad. But he never gives up. The Gladers kept on trying things and thinking together and finally Thomas though of going down the Griever Hole. That took a lot of teamwork to do and at the end, they finally felt safe after escaping from it. This makes the lesson to never give up and even when things seem impossible, just keep trying and think hard and eventually, you will succeed in finding what you wanted to do like escaping the Maze in Thomas’s case.

24 R Thomas goes through the changing and finds out they need to escape in the place least expected-the Griever hole. That is the resolution when they find out how to get out and do it. After that, they are happy even though that was a strange place to go down. This is how the story is resolved.

25 Mood Miserable, frightened, sad and depressing is the mood in the story. This is identified by everyone wanting to get out the Maze to their normal lives so they are very sad. They are also very scared and insecure being afraid of grievers and what could happen if they died from something. Everyone just wants to get out of the Maze and is depressed about it.
