Our World Project By: Aya El-Husseini 6D

IntroductionIntroduction The health problem that I will be focusing on in the four countries isThe health problem that I will be focusing on in the four countries is Typhoid fever - a bacterial disease that is spread when you come in contact with dirty food or water. Infants and people over 60 usually have the worst cases. Typhoid Fever is common in most parts of the world, except in industrialized regions, such as Japan. Typhoid Fever is not so prevalent in Thailand. Booster vaccinations are easy to get at hospitals and clinics throughout Thailand, so it is not a very big problem. Even though Typhoid Fever can be found in China, it is not as serious as the cases in the Philippines.

Data Introduction The next two slides you will see my collected data about the Typhoid Fever in all the 4 countries.

Typhoid Fever: Philippines More than twenty years since it became an important disease, Typhoid Fever has continued to happen in poor communities in the Philippines, mostly as a result of contaminated (dirty poisoned) food and water. As you can see from this chart, each year the cases and deaths of Typhoid Fever in the Philippines have rapidly increased and are continuing to have negative effects on the population. Now, you can find more than 10,000 cases per year.

Typhoid Fever: Japan, Thailand and China Japan: China: Typhoid Fever in China is also serious. There are many cases and deaths each year (about 5,000), but not as much as Philippines thanks to the vaccinations. Thailand: Typhoid Fever in Thailand is, like the Philippines, also serious (about 8,000 cases). But like China, the vaccinations have also saved my people in Thailand.

GraphGraph Typhoid fever in Asia accounted for 71% of the cases in the world. Out of 256 cases studied, there were 14 cases in Philippines, 4 in Thailand and 3 each in China and Japan. 1.2% 1.2% 1.5% (Out of 71%) 4.5% 14 3 4 3

Explanation Explanation Out of the 71% of Typhoid Fever in Asia, the Typhoid Fever cases in the Philippines are 4% more than the cases in Thailand and 4.3% more than the cases in China and Japan. Why? 1. Typhoid Fever in the Philippines is common because some of the food and water there is not safe to eat or drink. It has been contaminated (made dirty) and can’t be eaten. 2. Poor communities in Philippines can’t afford the treatments, so people are left to die of Typhoid Fever.

ConclusionConclusion In the end you can see that out of 4 different countries, Typhoid Fever is most common in the Philippines and we need the money to fund the treatments (injections).

Treatments for Typhoid Fever Typhoid fever treatmentTyphoid fever treatment involves antibiotics that can kill the bacteria. Treatment is focused on providing relief of symptoms as the body and antibiotics fight the illness. One way to prevent typhoid fever is with the typhoid vaccine. The vaccine contains killed Salmonella typhoid bacteria. This vaccine is done by an injection (shot). typhoid vaccine It may surprise you, but watching what you eat and drink when you travel is as important as being vaccinated. Avoiding risky foods will also help protect you from other illnesses, including; Travelers’ Diarrhea, Cholera, Dysentery and Hepatitis A.
