6 Catalysts for Change – YA Board New Presidents Message at May 2011 Federal Assembly 1.Equitable consistent fees structure to sustain effective YA & States. 2.Strengthened State Services – local delivery to a consistent standard. Centralise only when it makes sense 3. Safety - Self regulation requires critical self-examination and vigilance 4. Sponsorship and funding – for all levels 5. Service Culture - responsive Engagement Respect for diversity of opinion 6. United Common Purpose – aligned national plans

7 YA Strategic Plan 1.Grow Interest and Participation Promote interest in all forms of sailing and boating and ensure that appropriate opportunities exist for growing participation as interest increases, particularly amongst the young and older-aged people 2. Build Sport Capability Further the delivery of sailing and boating through Yacht Clubs, providing programs and resources to support the role of the club and its members, staff and volunteers and build the capacity of States and Yachting Australia to enhance the services available 3. Improve Governance and Management 4. Enhance Competitive Success

9 Sailing – Current Position Membership stagnant ? –Ranks c30 th in sport participation (1 in 200 Australians sail ) –Significant underrepresentation with young people and females Ninety recognised sports in Australia –62 funded by ASC –Infinite number of leisure options Sailing community expectation of peak bodies to assist increasing membership and participation –In Victoria the expressed highest priority Lack of alignment around a national plan to increase membership –Individual state and club plans and activities –Clubs are customer service point

16 Summary of Sports YA Development Role 1.Build national alignment on a plan to increase participation and club membership –Seek constructive contribution of all stakeholders 2.Deliver on the ASC and Member expectations to increase participation and membership –Harness the passion of YA Staff, States, Clubs, Members and the Industry 3.Uphold YA Reputation as a “high performance” sport –Shatter the polarisation of the sport around HP and the “rest” and recognise the continuum of the sailing pathway and diverse motivations of participants
