Do Now #9: What is the first stage of the plot of a story? What happens in this stage? 3. Plot
The plot is the sequence of events in a story. Plot consists of five stages: exposition, conflict, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution.
Exposition: the beginning of the story where characters, situations, and conflicts are introduced
Rising Action: the part of the story that builds suspense and leads to the climax
Climax: Usually the most interesting point in the story. Consists of usually one event that turns the problem around. Leads to the problem being solved.

4. Falling Action: the story starts to wind down, the problem is in the process of being solved.
Resolution: the result of the climax. Helps solve the problem.
Foreshadowing: when the author gives clues or hints as to what will happen later.

As you are reading today, think about the elements of plot in your book. Write down the parts of the plot that you may know already. Or, you may write down any foreshadowing that you recognized.
Be ready to share what you wrote with the class by the time reading has ended.
