Key partners: alcohol and drug forums, GCSS, service user & recovery groups; ADP, Community Health Partnership, Glasgow Addiction Services, Police, Glasgow Council on Alcohol, Fire & Rescue, Glasgow City Council, Glasgow Life, Scottish Drugs Forum, etc GCSS chair / administrate (Service Manager and Alcohol & Drugs Development Worker)

Answer, via 4,700 people, showed 95% ‘negative impact’ responses, including: –Impact on ‘sense of safety’ –Increase in antisocial behaviour –Parks being ‘no-go’ areas –Increase in litter –Abuse/intimidation by (young) people re. alcohol sale –Increase in violence and increase in vandalism

10 GRAND Getting Real about Alcohol ‘N’ Drugs Community responses to alcohol and drug issues Communities and Licensing Issues Expansion in supply/availability and affordability of alcohol. 2005 Act introduced consideration of the impact of the sale of alcohol on public health. Overprovision assessment. Community Councils’ role as consultees on local licensing applications. Community engagement and intelligence. Role of Licensing Forum.

13 GRAND Getting Real about Alcohol ‘N’ Drugs Community responses to alcohol and drug issues Recovery Communities Aim to create ‘recovery friendly’ communities Based on work by William White and others Building/strengthening relationships between treatment organisations and local recovery Shift addiction treatment from an acute care model to a model of sustained recovery management. Role of communities as core element

14 GRAND Getting Real about Alcohol ‘N’ Drugs Community responses to alcohol and drug issues Capacity-building and Support for Community Councils Alcohol and Drugs GCSS Alcohol and Drugs Development Worker. Glasgow Council on Alcohol (GCA) Prevention and Education teams (North East, North West and South) offer training, awareness sessions, information service, access to resources, etc.
