Founded by Henry Bergh in 1866 The first animal protection group in the United States After Bergh was appointed by Abraham Lincoln as the diplomatic post in Russia, he was disgusting by the treatment of animals there. 6. Signed into law in 1966 Only Federal law in the United States that can regulate the treatment of animals in regards to research, exhibition, transport, and by dealers.
