What is a map? A map is a smaller representation of an area.
What are the four parts of a map? 1. title 2. key 3. compass 4. scale
What is the title? Tells what the map is about The World’s Features Natural Wonders Important Land and Water Area of the World The World Map Fantastic Wonders
What is the key? Tells what the symbols of the map mean
What is the compass rose? Is the direction marker What are the cardinal directions? Are the middle directions NE- NW-SE-SW Are the main directions N-S-E-W What are the intermediate directions?
What is the scale? Shows distance in relation to a measurement or standard
What is the inset map? A small map within a larger map
What is the locator? A small map or picture, within a map, that shows where the region on the main map is located in a state, country, continent or world.
What is a grid? Lines that run north-south and east-west to help locate a place on a map
What are lines of longitude? Lines that run north-south on a map What are lines of latitude? Lines that run east-west on a map

What are the four hemispheres? Northern, southern, eastern, and western
What are the seven continents? North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, and Antarctica
What are the four oceans? Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, and Arctic
